I highly recommend Microsoft Security Essentials.

Look, if you are going freeware, then MSE is the best, its light weight and has a good detection ration,
But you cant go wrong with Avira or Avast, both are very good, if you have a permanent internet connection the lightest AV software you can get is Panda Lite.

If you are willing to pay, ESET is the best.

Never run 2 antivirus software on the same pc, if you are afraid of adware/spyware, rather just install Ad-Aware, it runs perfectly alongside your AV.

I wouldn't suggest using two... Take AVG off and you will see a performance increase

Using two AV's at the same time is never a good idea, it will cause noticeable slow downs.

As for which AV's to use, if you're paying get Nod32, Kaspersky or BitDefender.

If you want a free AV get MSE.
