looking for a decent gaming mouse, keyboard and headset for, say, under R1500 for the lot. it's mainly WoW and SC2 I play if that makes any difference. im guessing the mouse is the most important. what would you guys recommend for that price and will i need a special mouse pad for the razer mice, for example? are keyboards even that important for gaming? thx

Mousepads aren't expensive, or neccessary if you have a proper smooth surface.

For that, you could probably get a Razer Deathadder, logitech G11, and a Razer/Logitech/(Cheap) sennheiser headset.

You will notice the keyboard on WoW, though sound is less important. Mouse is a must, and the Deathadder is excellent.

If your really in need of a -excellent- mouse take a look at this video. Its really worth the money. Esquire just got them in stock a short while ago selling at R999.00 each (excl vat)

Rather just find one that's comfortable for you.

I had some mates in a clan, all 6 of them bought the rat7, all 6 of them returned with issues, and they did not buy from the same retailer so you can't blame a bad batch. 2 of my clan mates bought them, both returned with the same issue, the twineye laser packs up which leaves you with horizontal movement only, vertical sensors pack up comepletely. Other than that and the fact that the adjustment tool holder breaks off quite easily, and weight system can come loose and jingles, it's an awesome mouse

They fixed most of those issues in the rat 9 :) I'm not the most hardcore gamer around, but it works perfectly for me. Although your right, the OP might want something a little cheaper than this

Yes your right, like I said #6, he probably wants something cheaper mouse wise, but it doesn't mean he won't be open to suggestions. Afaik that's what he wanted.

As for the supplier, if you frequent this forum, you should know that they open accounts for individuals on mybb and we get the same price as the businesses who buy from them.

Was just my 2c

I'm not a big gamer but after getting a Razor mouse a month or 2 ago i'll give it a big +1 for comfort - i don't use any pad with it

thanks for the input everyone. as for the headset, i was at incredible connection getting a new ink cartridge and decided to just go for the logitech h530 USB headset (R450). i'm on an imac and can usually play SC2 on medium graphics at around 30fps, but when the headset is plugged in it drops to about 17!?! wtf. even when sound is disabled it's still that way as long as it's plugged in. how the hell can a headset do that? i'm taking it back tomorrow for a refund which i hope they'll give me :(

as for the mouse i'll be going with the deathadder.

On a laptop when it does that its a power supply imbalance & you can change power settings from "high performance" back to "balanced" & it sorts it......for an imac i have no idea but if there's a similiar setting maybe try that.In windows its it "Power Options"
Your CPU + GPU + now more usb power demand for headset dragging away too much power i'd guess

let me try running it through a powered USB hub. if it persists then it cant be that.

swapped it out for a non-USB plantronics headset and it's working good now. another question though... will the deathadder mouse work on mac? i know it will work as a standard mouse, but will the drivers and customisable buttons all work? ive heard there are problems with this so if i'm going to have to dual-boot just for this, another issue is apparently wc3 has problems installing in windows 7. there must be tons of dota players here on 7; what do you guys do?

wc3 works perfectly on Windows 7

I would go for the Logitech G500, very nice :)

Now for me it's all about the basic usual layout but with added functions and comfort (reliability) in both my mouse and keyboard. A year ago I got a Microsoft Sidewinder set from a friend. It was the smaller set, X3 mouse and X4 keyboard.

The X3 mouse is superb! For it's price and the functions you get from it, really very little beats it. It's very comfortable and has built in speed switching right above the mouse wheel. The only thing it doesn't have are weights. But why use weights? They are really only for the fanatic. The mouse also works great for just everyday use. And works perfect on any surface.

The X4 keyboard is something else though, a little bit of a let down at first... But then I realised the potency behind Ghosting free buttons and all those macro buttons. The lit buttons are perfect for the evenings or playing in the dark. And it's not too bright as to distract you when in a heated battle. And no matter how many buttons I press at once it computes them all with ease. Also it's quite comfortable, if not a bit on the big side.
