Money has to come from somewhere. Can't think of what they will do to get it.

VAT increase maybe.

Or maybe added on to fuel purchases, then like I said before, not only will the highway users pay but everyone will.

Taxing orgasms

When the GFIP started it was supposed to cost something like R7bn, and when they were done and Etolls implemented the debt ended up more than R20bn. Now the government is paying R47bn and that is not even all the debt owed.

According to the Gauteng government, the total debt absorbed will be R47 billion. Gauteng will therefore bear the responsibility to pay off R14 billion.

Imagine costing 7x more just because you're stubborn and inept
Ridiculous

It's not going anywhere, when the province realise they need to find some cash for it they will most likely double down:

“Gauteng will also cover the costs of maintaining the 201 kilometres and associated interchanges of the roads and any additional investment in road will be funded through either the existing electronic toll infrastructure or new toll plazas, or any other revenue source within their area of responsibility.”

After all, the infrastructure is already there.

Always conveniently forget the road tax is supposed to pay for roads, but never ring fenced and all just part of the kitty

Finance minister Enoch Godongwana announced that the national and Gauteng provincial governments taxpayers have agreed to contribute 70% and 30%, respectively, of the South African National Roads Agency’s (Sanral) debt and interest obligations.
FTFY

Gauteng and the Western Cape are the only ones that don't. They get less money back in their annual budgets than they generate in tax revenue.
Uhmm nope, it's actually Gauteng, KZN then the WC, the WC is 3 to 4% lower then KZN.

Gauteng highways gonna get a whole bunch of new speed cameras.

I'm fine with that. Put those expensive cameras to good use. Also use it to find and spot stolen / wanted vehicles on the highways.

Still not paying, like before. Perhaps now they will stop snail mailing me their toiletpaper bills.

That's what they should use it for a more legitimate use to ensure safer roads for all of us i.e. average speed checks. They should also use it to scan for vehicles that are not licensed, etc and then find a way to stop them. I saw this happen in the UK all those years ago.

My goodness so we do. Apologies.
:-P, now we have muppets going this wasn't thought through how are they going to get funding to maintain the roads sigh... It's like you know the way they were supposed to originally.
