Reason I ask, for business I travel with someone that's on Telkom. She's never had any issues - strange enough she's had full lte when I was on Edge with Vodacom. This is Joburg and Cape Town.

Were you constantly in all the rich areas of Cape Town and Joburg? :p

Only issue so far is bank smses take too long. Might be bank though.

It's Telkom. I still have the same problem after porting Vodacom>TM

Absa OTP can take up to 2-3 minutes to come through and my alarm company sms's were taking so many hours I asked them to change my number to the second sim in my phone.

It's a pain but I am not ready to leave TM yet

Standard Bank notifications don't come in at all. Get OTP's fine but someone could clear out my account and I wouldn't know since I don't get SMSs on movements there.

Stay on Prepaid for a bit, that's my plan moving forward.
Signal at home is decent. In Rosebank for a couple months so not a train smash.

So far Rosebank and Greenside are the issues.

Up in JHB this week, been around Rosebank, Hyde Park, North Riding and TM is terrible!

So we up and running. Quite excited. 3Mbps speed test though so... That kinda sucks.

I assume that would be TM/Mtn is terrible? Where TM has no coverage and Mtn does the account would connect to Mtn's tower?

Yeah roaming on MTN for voice is okay but I need the TM network for data.

Mmmmmm, I was under the impression that the data would revert to Mtn as well, if no TM tower in range? Are you saying not?

EDIT: Asked my SO how her first day on TM was working out and she reckons not so good. Poor signal in Linksfield. I whatsapp called her and it went through straight away with reasonable call quality. Tried phoning her through conventional method though and no dice. Just doesn't connect. Also all subsequent whatsapp messages aren't being delivered. Malakies...

You get full 3G data roaming on MTN when not inside a TM coverage area. I roamed on MTN all weekend in the Transkei and had speedtests of over 10mbps. It's rock solid

Give it a week.. yesterday was a little better for me.
Ask your SO to make sure roaming is enabled or she will struggle

Yeah, I was wondering about activating roaming. Always a bit reluctant just in case one incurred a massive bill on account of crossing some imaginary international border only cell providers are aware of...

Will tell her to activate and revert...

EDIT: I noticed your roaming was set to off, on yesterdays screenshot posted here. Have you since switched it on?

Yeah, switched mine on which relieved some gripes I was having.
Now just this SMS story to be sorted out.

Have you had a need to have personal hotspot feature enabled on yours? I see it's disabled by default (as is usually the case will all service providers). I assume a request has to be made to Telkom to activate it?
