Goodbye Vodacom

You get full 3G data roaming on MTN when not inside a TM coverage area. I roamed on MTN all weekend in the Transkei and had speedtests of over 10mbps. It's rock solid

Okay, for clarity... Generally the SO is finding Telkom coverage to be from weak to poor depending on where in the area she's travelling. There is the option to manually force her carrier from Telkom to MTN. By doing so the phone will permanently be connecting to MTN towers and not Telkom towers. On the Freeme 20gb prepaid package would there be any cost implications incurred by forcing MTN? Calls, data, smses etc etc etc?

TIA

And apologies for straying OT but I'm not seeing a Freeme exclusvie thread (although I haven't really looked)...

You can lock on to MTN and roam on them on a permanent basis. It will be EXACTLY the same as being on Telkom's towers with regards to sms, calls and data. There is no extra/other charges. Your 20GB bundle will deplete at the same rate as if you were on your Telkom home network and not roaming.

The ONLY change is that you will not get 4G/LTE on MTN roaming - they limit it to 3G. If you can live with the reduced speed, roam away....

Anyone made a similar move from VC to fnb connect?
Thinking about either fnb connect or Afrihost.
Used afrihost sim for a couple of months on spare phone and haven't had any issues.

Cell C (FNB) < Afrihost (MTN)

My plan is to move to FNB 1 December to the Flexi packages. But I want to find out that this means "*Recurring data bundles are promotional. Please refer to the terms & conditions for more information."

I've mailed them. I'm less interested if they change prices.

I moved from vodacom to fnb connect, been the biggest nightmare of my life.. They got my port wrong and have been unhelpful resolving it, regret my decision.

I been with Vodacom for about 18 years and never had any serious issues. Mates and colleagues are with various other subcribers, but the ones who bitch the most about coverage issues are Cell C users, followed by MTN.
Maybe it's bias, but too me Vodacom is way ahead of the others.

More info please. Planning on doing the same...

I reckon you may be right, however, it is the cost of what Vodacom offers that is most disappointing. Where other networks are trying or indeed offering more for less, VC keeps screwing their customers, year after year. That is my main reason for looking elsewhere.

I went over to FNB Connect cause the ebucks and what you get back made sense in the the sort of spend I was racking up, I moved over and got the FNB phone for R150 p/m which comes down depending on your ebucks level ( I needed a phone replacement urgently) the phone came with its own sim card so it forced me to move over.. They did the port and literally a day later i got a message it is being reverted, why or who did this is beyond me, I am now a month later and still battling to get my VC number ported back to FNB.

So barring the port change, it's not like you struggle with calls or the similar? It's exactly for this reason that I'm going prepaid first, porting, and then going contract.

Have never had dropped calls like I had with vodacom.
Cell c is miles ahead. Speeds are far better.
Only issue is some areas are a little spotty with data coverage.
For the price and service vodacom isn't even on the same page
