Goodbye Vodacom

My contract finishes this month with Vodacom. Tried to phone cancellation department today to cancel contract and make sure they move me to pre paid next month. AFTER 20 MINUTES OF NOBODY ANSWERING CANCELLATIONS I GAVE UP. Will try again tomorrow.

Vodacom is turning into Telkom adsl support and cancellations.

Yep!
Speeds are decent sitting around 18Mbps. Testing next to my LTE uncapped which gets 40 though.

Only issue so far is bank smses take too long. Might be bank though.

Nothing wrong!! iPhone 6s? Your LTE uncapped with or without Poynting external antenna?

Normal 6. Uncapped without the antenna.

40 without antenna is impressive. You'd probably get 60-70 with one, must be pretty close to a tower. I'd expect a bit better from the phone though, 25-30 given your uncapped result. Anyway, there's a lot of value for your R599! R599 won't get you much on the Vodacom network! My daughters got a uChoose Flexi 200 package. After we've bought a gig of data @R149 there's not much change for anything else. Pretty useless but it did come with a 5s 16gb and she is only 10!!! So....

Yeah. With this I'll cut my R2k Voda bill down to R599. Buy a phone cash when needed but I have Carb for that.
No routing issues too which was my biggest worry.

Add a R99 entertainment Bolton will give you an additional 10Gig for streaming ,vodascum really suck

Vodacom doesn't seem to get it. Their directors and senior staff earn these bizarre fat salaries but don't care about what the customer wants. Everything went to poo when AKC left. But now we have cheap Internet. Cheap calls and decent speeds with the likes of telkom and cell c. Vodacom is going to learn a very hard lesson here. Don't say we didn't warn you

I got a new sim.. call and ask again? Told Vodacom one would stop working and pop the Telkom one in

Do you have a telkom simcard yet? If not you're wasting your time doing things via email. Best get into a store and start process with a real person.

Yeah, confirmed this morning. Need to buy a Telkom sim and report back with sim card number.

First issue this am. No signal in Rosebank or GPRS speeds..

This has been my exact problem with Telkom Mobile over the last 2 years. My contract ended last month and I'm looking around for deals.

The only reason I went with Telkom, is because they had the best data deal. But wow, no signal at home (roughly 20 seconds connectivity every minute), no reception most other places, except for in Town itself. Oh, and at work, where I'm on WiFi.

It's been an incredibly annoying 2 years, but I must part with Telkom. Was honestly really looking at getting back with Vodacom as I've never had a problem with them since I've owned a cellphone, but this thread makes me think otherwise.

I've checked coverage with CellC in my area, and low and behold, there's LTE AND Advanced LTE, so that looks great.

Only issue I have with CellC - their phone deals are phones from 2015???

Stay on Prepaid for a bit, that's my plan moving forward.
Signal at home is decent. In Rosebank for a couple months so not a train smash.

So far Rosebank and Greenside are the issues.

I am thinking of porting to the freeme 2 gig package from Vodacom but no signal scares me.

Which area do you live?

Kraaifontein in Cape Town. But I get limited reception in Bellville, Durbanville, Brackenfell, Century City are, Milnerton, Tableview... Close to ZERO signal in Goodwood/Parow areas.

I think Stellenbosch was also pretty weak.

Observatory and Rondebosch seem fine. Starts to die down a bit more closer toward Claremont.

City bowl is fine, too.

I've tested a lot of areas, as I'm a VoIP Engineer on the road, and tether my laptop to my phone, where I often encounter issues on Telkom's network.

Maybe it's just me...

EDIT: As long as you do thorough checks on Telkom's website, to ensure you have signal in the majority of places you're going to be. Maybe call them and find out as well.

We resell Telkom's LTE (Huawei router + SIM) to clients as a solution and when doing a feasibility check on 4G/LTE in the area, it's not always a guarantee, or the reception is horrid - in some cases.

Reason I ask, for business I travel with someone that's on Telkom. She's never had any issues - strange enough she's had full lte when I was on Edge with Vodacom. This is Joburg and Cape Town.
