Google: Android didn't copy iPhone

Ironic - as that whats the world be like if Apple had their way ;)

My iPad looks like every other iPad in the office - despite me having my own needs and wants.

Seriously but how customisable is your average symbian handset, or bb for that matter? What about wm? It's really only android that allows such broad spectrum customisation and even then rooting is sometimes required.

The thread is about Android though :/

Though the BB has interactive logo's which are pretty cool. I still don't need to go into the app to check weather etc as the logo itself displays it

nah ... I do believe he's right.

My two examples are actually very true and I often heard that lack of 3G and camera's was a great Apple decision for various reasons. However - when they were added later (albeit a crappy 0.7MP camera which even developers say limits them ...) everyone was 'wow! camera!'

I'm glad I don't fit into the Apple fanboi or Android fanboi club :P

Like the fandroids don't make excuses for their devices short comings. Human nature.

How often have you heard, " I don't need more than a days charge,I'm always close to a plug point" or " you must have small hands, I can easily handle my 4.3" screen with one hand" or " my anti virus handles all the malware and viruses out there, I'm not concerned".

... I here that exact excuse from iFolk!

Seem Apple copied erm Stole another Android feature, they just didnt turn it on

http://gizmodo.com/5858149/how-to-enable-ios-5s-hidden-auto+correct

Turns out iOS 5 is hiding Easter Eggs aplenty. Besides the camera's secret panorama mode, an Android-style auto-correct bar has been uncovered as well.

Here's how to enable the feature in just six steps per 9 to 5 Mac:

  1. Download iBackupBot
  2. Backup your iPhone/iPod in iTunes
  3. Open iBackupBot and find the backup, then load it.
  4. Find Library/Preferences/com.apple.keyboard.plist and open the file. (if your software isn't registered you'll have to press cancel and then it will open)
  5. Add in the following code: KeyboardAutocorrectionListsYES
  6. Save your modifications, and then restore from backup from within iBackupbot.

As an Android fanboi myself, I can't independently confirm that this actually works. So, if you try it and succeed, let us know in the comments!

From a stock perspective Android allows the most customization; once you get into rooting / JB'ing the field levels out. It's not fair to compare BB to Android; to be revisited after the next iteration of BB with QNX. WM7 is still struggling to take off; maybe Nokia will get them there.

What secret panorama camera?

EDIT : Got it! Now we can make full use of this .7MP camera ;) Not sure why they'd something like this ...

My point is simply that extensive interface customisation is the exception rather than the rule. People harp on about it as if it's only iOS that isn't customisable where the reality is it's only Android that is...

How long have photosynth and pano been available?

http://www.rugby365.com/tournaments/trinat/news/2818424.htm

See this is exactly the problem.... the more you dig the more you find other people that did it 1st, so how unique is the features really? as I recall now about my Old Casio camera having panoramic shooting back in 2002 but I am sure it was not the 1st.

It did not have the smooth pan feature with auto-stitch but it had a setting for the photo's to be used with some Panorama software on the PC.

Possible solution to the dilemma
Take a Nokia model 5110 and apply a liberal coating of super glue. Now attach this to the side of the "Old Casio camera" and you should end up with an authentic phone that can take panoramic shots, customization comes in the form of stars, glitter and pritt.

Aaah here we go again... Is this what they call a fandroid? If you were not so ignorant of the conversation, you would realize that both Elimentals and myself own both Android and iOS devices.

Hey man that was harsh. I was just making a general point which could be generalised more to include all Fanboys. I wasn't refering to anyone specific.

I still think it mainly comes down to choice though. Each platform has its strengths and weaknesses and allour needs aren't the same. That's why fanboys annoy me (and I'm sure other ppl too) so much, because they believe what they need is what everybody needs.

Just ignore me, sometimes like this occasion I also lose it for many of the same reasons -- thanks for your response.
