Google Calendar SMS - Vodacom issues

Hi there

Has anyone else out there experienced problems with receiving Google Calendar SMS notifications. From the morning of 25 July 2009 I have not received any Calendar notifications via SMS.

I've tried to reauthenticate my cellphone number on three different Vodacom numbers (and devices - 2xBB + 1xiPhone) with no sms ever being received. I put in a friend's Cell C number and he very quickly got a notification.

Anyone have any ideas, contacts at Vodacom senior technical level (Call centre cites the fact that I receive regular sms's as proof that Vodacom is not at fault) or Google South Africa (you try and google their contact details and tell me if you find anything :-)

Now that you mention it, I also have the same problem and I'm also on Vodacom.

I was expecting one for the 30th July but nothing came through so I thought that perhaps I never set anything and I forgot to check up after that. But now I did and everything is set up correctly. Wonder what the problem is...
 
Yup, mine doesn't work either? Previously it worked 100%.

I can also confirm that for me Vodacom does not work but MTN and CellC does. @VodacomData, would appreciate it if you could look into this for us. Thanks.
 
@ VodacomData, might this be the problem:
Your provider blocked shortcodes. Your mobile provider might have inadvertently blocked you from receiving SMS messages from services that use shortcodes. Please ask your carrier to unblock messages from Google (48368).

i opened a thread about this before i've also been having the same problem. its like vodacom blocked all the messages from google...
 
I have also noticed this, missed a few things as I forgot the entries, nothing serious. Hope it gets sorted out soon as it was a nice feature.
 
I also noticed this.
really a great feature. I would even be prepared to pay for it.
Is there no-one from vodacom prepared give some feedback on this
 
I never really used Google Calendar, that was until I came across this thread and learnt about this cool sms feature. I decided to try it out and it works perfectly. I did all the initial setup and it works perfectly. I'm receiving sms notifications on time. BTW I'm using MTN. Thanks guys.
 
I have just done a test. all MTN sims work.
Interestingly an mtn number which has been ported to vodacom works.
no standard vodacom sims/numbers work.
is there anyone from vodacom or google that is prepared to look into this?
 
As mentioned b4 I think that an issue lies with the fact that Vodacom no longer routes SMSs that have in invalid sender from number.

In other words, SMS (MTs) sent from international carriers to local handsets in order to bypass paying Vodacom for the message.

This came into force on the 8th July. As far as I'm aware Google is currently not using a local WASP to send MTs. On the scale they send messages they would need to be at least a WASPA affiliate member.

thanks for this info - why would an 083 number that has been ported to vodacom work. Would this sms not have to be routed/delivered by vodacom ? or do I not understand the porting system. thanks.
 
Everyone test it now ... it is working again for me. I just got my 9am meeting alert and my birthday reminder I have in my Google Calendar for today. Whoohooo !!!! Happyness !!!
