Google Chrome 4 default browser in Ubuntu 9.04

This dude was spot-on. :)

Is this the future of Linux browsing?

If I look at this with an eye for just pure browsing, I would have to say “yes” — this is the future of browsing. Why? Because once this is released officially, the Firefox developers are going to have to play some serious catch-up. After you experience the speed of Chrome on Linux, using Firefox is like going back to an old Mozilla browser.

Yip Chrome is superb, just waiting for the customizable thumbnail views and I'll be using her as default browser...
 
Another tip :

If you want to get rid of the annoying "about chrome : linux" page when you start Chrome, you have to edit the command to launch Chrome.

My command looks like this :

/opt/google/chrome/google-chrome --enable-plugins www.google.co.za %U

Thanks for this...using Chrome now...and really like it...but my java and flash not working. You say you posted a link but dont see it? Help?
 
Thanks Kingrob....followed instructions for flash and seems to be working 100% now. And so easy!!! Copy and pasted the commands into terminal and presto! :-)

Now just java left and then ill only use Chrome by the looks of it. Thanks for this headsup :-)
 
mmm not sure how I did it but java working now it seems. Went to www.java.com then clicked on check version....this is now from inside chrome....then it did the check and said i have a incorrect version...did not want to fiddle with it so just closed it. Think I might have restarted chrome after that...cant remember...and now it is working.

Oh, and the light blue tab bar at the top looks very sexy with Ubuntus brown colored themes. :)
 
Does sound like a nice mix...I did not like the brown colours of Ubuntu though....Mint has a black scheme by defualt...was not crazy about that either....so downloaded infinity theme.....looks yummy :-)

I'm sorry but that blue is horrific, I use a grey theme and set chrome to GTK themes to look the same.

Blue is just... :sick:
 
haha @ Aqua. I rather like the blue mixed with my shiny grey theme. Have also set it to GTK theme...but then it looked a bit bland for me. Blue and Grey suits me :-)
 
Tried Chrome 4 on my mint install, and as a long time Firefox user I have to say WOW. Really nice.

Is it possible to make the tab strip semi transparent? I run desktop effects, and the blur plugin for transparent areas. Would be really awesome if i could get the tabstrip semi transparent.

Flash seems to work fine.
 
I dont know....I dont run any effects on my lappie. Desktop effects are set basic....as soon as I run effects it makes my lappie unstable. Think it might have something to do with my Nvidia driver or something. :-(

OT for this thread, but if you run NVidia drivers like I do, disable powermizer when on AC power. This really makes desktop effects snappy. I need to do the same under Win 7 :erm:

Follow this thread for powermizer options, and how to change them.
 
Thank you Nuro...will give it a bash. It would work 100% for half a hour or so with the desktop effects running, he the whole screen will just go ka fung faai with the colours and images scrambled all over. I then have press power button and keep it in till it switches off and restart it. Was very anoying. What does powermizer do if I may ask? I am not a power linux user so dont know all the technical stuff :-)
