Literally can't open a single link in your post because I'm at work. Hows a quote or summary for those less fortunate.

Wow, I can see this app going to the # 1 downloaded app. Thanks for the info.

The map saga made me upgrade to a Samsung S3 two weeks ago (from having four iPhones previously). But I am now loving the larger screen and feature rich Android operating system. So I'm not sorry that I didn't wait and upgrade to an iPhone 5

After playing with this for several minutes, I agree with a previous post - this app is a watered down version of the one on Android. But, this is their first version so no doubt it will improve. But after having used google maps on the large S3 for the last 2 weeks, this seems mickey mouse in comparison.

I see they have not released a version for the iPad yet - I look forward to that

Elaborate?

Certain features are only available on Android, whether that is a Google or Apple decision who knows.
I don't see Latitude or the traffic notifications in navigation on the expected travel time.

The current pre-iOS 6 native app didn't have any of that. This looks like a definite improvement over that, we couldn't exactly expect Google to give iOS the same or better app than Adnroid.

Good news is that they also updated the Maps SDK for iPhone devs to use its mapping software.
Google launches Maps SDK, offers iOS developers alternative cartography

Mountain View's mapping service is back on iOS, but Google's cartography team isn't content with launching a standalone app: it wants to worm its way into other developer's apps, too. Leveraging a URL scheme, Google Maps' iOS SDK allows developers to call up its own navigation application in favor of iOS 6's offering. The SDK also demonstrates how to perform a quick check to make sure Google Maps is installed, allowing apps to default to Apple's solution if it isn't found. Developers looking for a more integrated solution can request access to API keys that will allow their apps to natively utilize Google's cartography in 2D and 3D views. It's a subtle hand to play, but the update SDK gives developers more control over the experience they offer to users, a good thing, to be sure. Looking for access to the new API? Register your interest at Google's developer site -- it's doling access to qualified developers as API keys become available.

You went Samsung because of the map feature on iPhone after having 4 iPhone's previously? Holy **** dude, you don't have much patience at all do you? (fyi, google released google maps on the iPhone now)

Actually even Google admitted that the interface on iOS is better than the Android version (to be updated soon). Something that is upsetting me... How does one rename a saved location on a map?

I actually forgot how poor google is at interface design. If it wasn't for the content of google maps, I wouldn't use it at all.
