I hope the Nexus 5 is brought in by our local carriers. My 2nd contract is due for renewal early next year.

Love this phone, and the price is fantastic!

If Telkom Mobile gets this phone, I'm signing up for a third contract. :D

where you getting the phone delivered to?
can you make a guide how to use this proxy?
through the play store (link in previous post).

Last year I bought the nexus 4 using the UNOtelly proxy server and after receiving the device maybe a month later the american play store opened up for me.
So now I just logged in to the play store and clicked on devices and add them to the basket and checked out.

Out of curiosity sake but how did you place that order? Every time I visit the site I get told that my country is not supported, so VPN or proxy?

Used uno telly [http://www.unotelly.com/unodns/]the first time when placing my order for the nexus 4 last year, after which the US store unlocked for me about a month later after using it.

getting it delivered to California warehouse and then to me via http://www.postbox-courier.com/index.php
There was a guide made for the nexus 4, let me look for it and shall post it here.

Edit: Found the thread; http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/501692-How-to-buy-a-Nexus-4-in-South-Africa

For step 1 I used the parcel ID supplied by postbox courier.

I have relatives who are going to Hong Kong on the 18th of November. Do you guys think they will be able to find the Nexus 5 in a store there somewhere?

Finding one is never a problem. But the price won't be something worthwhile

I doubt we'll get it a good price if they do, the UK carrier prices for the N5 are scary!

Interesting:

Guys, look at the first 2 minutes of this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QHkv-bSlds
Like all 5 inch 1080p devices, the Nexus 5 reports to the Android OS to be a 480PPI device while it is truly 440PPI. This actually means that the Android OS thinks these displays are physically smaller than they are, and UI elements on 5 inch phones are needlessly large (by UI guideline standards).
As a consequence, the actual screen real-estate available to apps (expressed in density independent pixels) is 640x360 compared to the Nexus 4's 640x 384. So the Nexus 4 has just as much vertical real-estate while having more horizontal real estate.
tl;dr: Because of the way Android works, the Nexus 4 can fit more stuff on its screen at once compared to all 5inch phones out there.

Hi Guys

I intend getting a Nexus 5 as I have family in the US.
Is there anything that I should know regarding customs and couriers stance on bringing in these sort of products.
Do you suggest I take the insurance option and will it work on our local networks.

Thanks in advance.

Ok, so a mate and I will be importing a few of these units in. If anyone was interested in purchasing, actual interest, just let me know so we have an idea of demand. Not looking to mass sell units, just maybe 2 or 3 if people wanted a unit or 2 and didnt mind paying a little extra to not have the hassle of actually importing it themselves. We will be getting one each ourselves. That being said, read through all the forums seems like setting up a VPN and buying through google play store with a post-box-courier seems to be the most viable option? Im just worried about nailed with import duties, but as far as i can see, i'd only have to pay 14% vat as the nexus 5 is classified as a 0% import duty.

P.s. Cape Town will be the point of collection

When do you guys think we'll we getting the N5? I'm in 8.ta and contract ends in Jan. It seems like good logic for them to release it here nearing Christmas?
