Its always going to be cheaper in the US as there is no double tax implications. The phone is produced in the States and thus does not need to be imported or shipped and repriced. The rand/dollar is also coming down so it is even cheaper still. The 32gig version works out to R4005 (give or take) from the play store. The one from carphone warehouse is the 16gig for R4 700 (Give or take).

The Americans ones do still have sales tax added to the listed price.

Yes. I know. read the 2nd sentence. There is no import duites attached to it which the companies in the UK move onto the consumer, hence the price difference.

@Michaelmw the same method works exactly the same. I did it, orderd 4. Works 100%. justfreevpn.com. Create a VPN connection to the US server. http://store.google.com add the nexus 5 to basket. Purchase with credit card. Apply for a box via post-box-courier, have it delivered there. Pay post box for shipping to SA. Wait for customs to get the devices, pay the 14% levies on the units. Bobs your uncle, you are now a proud owner of a nexus 5.

Import Options

PPObox[16 GB] http://www.ppobox.com/

Price: 349
Delivery in US: 14
Tax for NY (their warehouse is in NY): 32
Registration on ppobox - Free
Shipping + customs in India + Insurance by ppobox: (USD 30 - 35)

So the total comes out to be: USD 425 - 430 (inclusive of everything)

hopshopgo.com[16 GB] http://www.hopshopgo.com/hopshopgo/s...r.do?l=en&c=IN

Price: 349
Delivery in US: 14
Tax for Portland (their warehouse is in Portland): 0
Registration on HopShopGo - Free
Shipping + customs in India + Insurance by HopShopGo: (USD 40 - 45)

So the total comes out to be: USD 403 - 415 (inclusive of everything)

How to Import

1) Register on any of the sites like Hopshopgo / comgateway / PPOBOX / borderlinx etc. that provide reliable shipping services.

(Some sites may have some registration fee, some may not.)

2) Note down your U.S address which they provide.

Example :

Quote:
Your Name
17146 NE Sandy Blvd
c/o INX-XXX
Portland, OREGON 97230
Tel: 503-914-6317

3) Go to the Play Store via your VPN and get your Phone shipped to your U.S Address.

Quote:
For this, Please use VPN services like us.newfreevpn.com or justfreevpn or any free and reliable free VPN sites.
Add your Indian credit card with the same U.S address you received. The both the shipping and billing address must be the same.

4) Once the shipment is received on the U.S address, the company will usually notify you within 1-2 Days along with the estimated cost for shipping to India based on the type of shipping you want.(standard or expedited).(This can be without duty for some sites)

5) You pay the amount to the company online.

6) They will usually provide an airway bill/tracking number.

7) Wait for your Nexus 4.

8) Pay any customs in cash if not paid before to the delivery boy.

9) Enjoy your Nexus 4.

So it is first shipped/delivered to your US adress. How does it get from there to the shipping company that's going to ship it to SA?

The USA shipping addy is the addy of the shipping company sending it to SA, the specific company supplies that address

Maybe MyBB can run an article asking the service providers whether they will be bringing the N5 to our shores?

Not going to happen. I work for the cellucity ranch, and i know for a fact the Nexus 5 is not going to brought onto contract pricing here at all. They are more focussed on the LG G2. Apparently the SA market as a whole, does not know what nexus is. They used to have the entire Samsung Nexus range a few years back. They barely sold those units and thus are not going to bring the N5.

Thats only because the ISP dont market the Nexus devices, so stupid since its much cheaper and much more suited for the ZA market! I wish they could pull up their socks a bit and start promoting phones actually worth buying!

That would be useful! Im dying to know if we will get the Nexus 5. The 4 wasnt available here because of the Nexus 2 sales that was poor (mainly because the ISPs didnt advertise properly!)

ISPS = Internet Service Providers. You are referring to Mobile network carriers. :). Also remember, tech heads do not constitute the majority of SA citiziens. Majority of them a sheep followers who buy a phone because its "Samsung" produced rather than buying for the specs and the power.
