Google Nexus 5

I expect there will be a Nexus 5 2014 edition by January or Feburary next year.

Let's face it, the battery life on this phone is terrible. Been reading reports/user opinions/feedback from a few sources, and it looks like Google has skimped on the wrong hardware this time.

I cant speak for other people but initially I had my doubts as I didn't have great battery life, but now things have changed and I am quite happy.

Yup, that's what I read too. And the only complaint I have seen about this product is the battery

No, you are 100% correct, it is indeed a 2300 mAh battery.

I'm suggesting that they just modified an older battery to fit the Nexus 5.

Correct.

They could have at least used a 2600mAh battery (like in the Galaxy S4), or what about the G2's 3000mAh battery?

But no, instead they opted for a 2300mAh battery, which I suspect, is from an older phone.

Update : Looks like LG went with the battery they used for the LG G Pro Lite. It's a 3140mAh.

For the price though... had they put in a bigger battery, what reason would anyone else have to purchase another Android device? This hurts Android more, and Google probably don't want to piss off their partners too much.

The software handles the battery pretty damm good to be honest

Well, you could argue the same for Android 2.X, which didn't do hardware acceleration.

But looking at all the changes in Android 4.4, I tend to agree with you :

Refreshed interface with white status bar icons/text, ability for apps to trigger a translucent navigation and status appearance.[127]
Optimizations for performance on devices with lower specifications, Low RAM device API[122]
Wireless printing capability[122]
NFC Host Card Emulation for emulating smart cards[122]
WebViews based on Chromium (feature parity with Chrome for Android 30)
Expanded functionality for Notification listener services[122]
Public API for developing and managing text messaging clients, ability to specify a default SMS app[128]
New framework for UI transitions
Storage access framework for retrieving content and documents from other sources
Sensor batching, Step Detector and Counter APIs[122]
"Immersive" full screen mode, software buttons and status bar accessed with an edge swipe gesture[129]
Audio tunneling, audio monitoring, loudness enhancer
Built-in screen recording
Native infrared blaster API
Expanded accessibility APIs, system-level closed captioning settings
New experimental runtime virtual machine, ART[130]
Bluetooth Message Access Profile (MAP) support[131]
Removes third party application access to battery statistics.[132]

The TOR network is a wonderful thing. Slow, but wonderful.

For me the trick was to have the billing and delivery address exactly the same, and to have a valid, in country, contract number. All of that has to correspond with the details on the Google account.

I should pick up my N5 today and then I'll be able to give a final rundown on costs.

thanks stoozak

guys that have the phone, how have you been finding it? just read about some horror stories with ppl having shattered screens from the smallest of drops and from even just resting their phone on their screens!!

Dropped mine on a tar road yesterday, survived fine. Ringke Slim case, screen protector both installed. But note that the sorts of links you offer are always going to emphasise the disaster scenarios - people drop phones all the time, but wouldn't bother reporting it unless there's a break. The N5 has a rubberised back as opposed to the glass back and front of the N4, so it presumably has to be more robust.

I've never dropped mine, but the glass is right up against the edge. I don't think it would take knocks that well.

Dropped my N4 twice and no case or screen protectors. Once from lap on to bricks, was getting out the car and phone bounced twice on the corners, no visible damage. The other day, the thing slid off the arm of the couch and fell FLAT on it's face on to tiles and again no cracks or shattering, was really surprised!

Hi guys I have two 32G Nexus 5s on the way. I will be selling one and keeping the other (PM me). One arrives on Friday :D:D:D(hopefully). But here is the kicker. The second one, which I prefer because it is black, is still pending shipping and is due to be shipped by Google on 3 Dec. Add to that the 2-3 week waiting period for shipping. What should I do? 1st world problem I know but still I really like the black model, but then again waiting till Christmas time....:eek::eek::eek:

got a choice between Nexus 5 and LG G2.
dunno which 1 to choose:confused:

3000mah battery on LG G2 vs 2300mah on N5
13mp Camera on G2 vs 8mp on N5

got a maily member coming from uk, LG G2 cheaper than N5 in UK if i remember correctly

Nice well then it comes down to how you like android....in my terms and obviously the reason for the nexus range was pure fast access to latest builds of android....I love it stock android is my home , less all the junk and its amazing. Non the less this phone flies and is super smooth.

In the end up to you, the battery is handled well in 4.4 and I get longer screen on time than I did with mg s4 to

im fairly new to andriod , had a Note 2 and hated the flooded / bloat with widgets etc.
when 4.4 is released for the LG G2 will it also have the clean andriod or will it be customized from LG?

tnx for your replies

Will probably be customized by LG. Only phones who are "officially" without any skins are the Nexus devices and the "Play" editions of the Galaxy S4 and HTC One in the US.

Will be fill with what LG adds and what Samsung adds....give a stock. Device to my parents and they will be lost but with the s4 they comfortable its because that's how these companies sell their devices, what the ads of them and see what they show off specially Samsung's ads. If your new to android and you like the stock experience (can be researched by search and watching the nexus 5 videos on youtube),this will give u an idea of the stock experience... Anyways LG are going to do what they do with the bloat and it often effects the performance of the device....stock android can be put on the LG G2 but that means rooting the device and flashing a custom ROM even then the updates to android will never be as quick as they are on the nexus devices....

In my opinion if your comfortable with android and like the debloated OS then nexus is defiantly your choice with the two having the same processor its a good idea to check them both out in some comparison videos on YouTube might help your idea too...

Like I said I love stock and nexus has been thee device for me...

like i mentioned, im new to andriod. had iphones, blackberry's and windows 8 lumia 920.
does the UI that comes customized from a manufacturer like LG n Sumsung really affected performance that much that its very noticeable eg. on N5?
