Prices start at $649. i was hoping that they'd go back to the prices they had for the Nexus 4 and 5. Might as well get an iPhone since it's the same price.

Why downgrade?

You see, just as I said yesterday, you just can't help yourself trolling anything to do with the iPhone.

You really are like a stroppy child who always has to get the snide comments in...

Overall it looks like Google did well this round.

I'm very glad the smaller one (5" Pixel) does not compromise on CPU, RAM, storage, or screen (which is amoled in both cases). The lower resolution in the Pixel is justified by the smaller screen and smaller battery, so no real compromise there. For the first time in quite a while, there is a small Android phone I would actually want, as it has great hardware and close to stock Android.

One thing bothers me, though. They did not include stereo front facing speakers. This is a major step back to those of us who have become used to the joys of front facing stereo speakers. I'm struggling to understand the design choice here, given the fact that the bottom bezel is quite large.

Given the option, I'm not sure I'll exchange my 6P for a Pixel XL. Maybe. I'll wait for the reviews to give more information.

I do hope they bring the software experience and additional functions (new launcher, Google assistant, better camera controls etc.) to the older Nexus devices.

You're relying on leaked info. I can't see Google instituting different policies for Pixel users but we'll see.

The official information mentions this. He's correct about that. See for example:

But one of the big announcements from the event is that Pixel owners get free, unlimited full-resolution backups on Google Photos, a big differentiator from other Android devices, which only get unlimited "high" resolution photos.

Pretty much what I thought also. The 5" size would be much easier to use than the phone I have currently. High-spec 5" phones are pretty rare nowadays.

That is just crazy pricing. This is one of those Google projects that's going to need a rewrite

True. I'll either go for a OnePlus something or just get an iPhone. My Nexus 6 is still perfect but I'll need to replace it sooner or later.

I know you were first, but can we thread merge with this : http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=846182

Not up to me, Mr McPanji, but Kevin can be an idiot when it comes to not putting threads in the correct section, new Nexus phone announced? Let's make a thread in Broadband & IT News!!!

FFS, how is it possible the definitions of IT and Broadband now seem to include Android mobile phone releases?

And this isn't the first time it's been done...

I've pre-ordered mine from Cellucity - not sure what will come of that, but dying to get my hands on this device. Also waiting to see local prices. Word has it that it will be sold for around R9,999 locally.

Currently have a 6p 64GB which was bought within a month of release- for R10k. Based on overseas pricing I think the Pixel XL is going to end up being in the region of 13 to 14k which is overkill for not much of an improvement.
