Google RCS?

@Ockie and @yabana

The lastest bad news from Vodacom HQ on this topic:-
QUOTE -We thank you for your patience and raising the below matter to our office.

We have consulted with the executive team for messaging service and the status of the feedback remains as per 2024 communication.

At the point we cannot confirm if the RCS messaging provided via mobile data or other internet providing sources and thus cannot provide definitive yes or no response.

In addition, not clear timelines has been provided to our office, as the RCS messaging is not a Vodacom product but Google. thanks - UNQUOTE.

Once they realise financial benefits only then they will take it seriously and push for implementation.

@yabana - All noted, but if our South African networks like VODACOM & MTN do not support RCS on Mobile Data then all is lost inspite of all the efforts to obtain answers has resulted in Zero. It seems they have NO INTENTION to activate RCS anyway.
We are not sure about our Telkom Mobile and Cell - C users at this time.

Android-to-iPhone RCS messages will be end-to-end encrypted

The GSM Association (GSMA, no relation to us) has published new RCS specifications that allow end-to-end encryption across platforms. RCS messages on Android have been end-to-end encrypted for years, but now the same level of security can apply to messages sent from Android to iOS or vice-versa, since Apple has finally joined the RCS party last year.

In fact, Apple has already sent out the following statement on the matter:

End-to-end encryption is a powerful privacy and security technology that iMessage has supported since the beginning, and now we are pleased to have helped lead a cross industry effort to bring end-to-end encryption to the RCS Universal Profile published by the GSMA. We will add support for end-to-end encrypted RCS messages to iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and watchOS in future software updates.

Some more testing. Results are inconsistent. Have to have WiFi on,on both devices. Send back and forth. When you then turn WiFi off on both devices it keeps working on Vodacom mobile data network. Will continue to test. Others input will be appreciated.

Did more testing. Once both devices connected to WiFi and messages sent to and from...then switch WiFi off on both devices...it keeps working......until you close Google Message's app on either phone as a background app or restart either device....then it breaks again. Don't know why or how. @Jan ... perhaps time to have a official funaral article for RCS in this country....or at least for Vodacom customers.

@Ockie Look at this as this might be linked in some way to this RCS issue and Vitrual Card notifications. https://mybroadband.co.za/forum/thr...fication-failure.1318078/page-2#post-33866239

Alternatively - Is this issue related to (a) Apn - internet OR (b) Apn - Unristricted.
Defined as'
(a)Internet - Blocks unsolicited pack requests.
(b)Unrestricted - Does NOT Block unsolicited packs.

Your WiFi is depentant on backbone normally Unrestricted Apn..!!!
