Google type WiFi Mesh Network for Tshwane

I think they only have dense coverage in Hatfield, in their "MetroMesh Zone"

maye someone should drop a note to the DoC who have their offices in Hatfield and let them know that a decent service is available in their area...

Works fine for me. Its probably a problem with your ISP's transparent Proxy.

why is it that Joburg is the "money capital of SA" yet we always freaking last with everything? i swear Upington will one day have a wireless network with everybody getting internet free then we will still battle to have our upmarket suburbs get adsl nevermind 3g...

Cheap scum marketing tactic leeching off Google's good name....

Here's what I envisage. WUG's all over with advertising-sponsored "free" internet access for all.

ISP's can make their money with support and setup of access to the WUGs.

FEAR THE WUG.

Well, it's a start

But sadly, without the proper equipment, you can hardly count on a fast stable link over wifi, especially with issues like interference. And don't expect your internal Laptop antenna to get a good connection from you local watertower 2km away when your sitting in your lounge.

Sigh

And I had such high hopes for it too

Thats not the point. They're not trying to do this everywhere.
They've done it in Hatfield, along the streets that were listed, but everywhere else, you will need additional equipment. This is by design, and its working just fine.

I have good signal! :)
But can`t connect using the dailer. it times out. :(

Connecting thru a WRT54GL is there some setting i am missing?

Daffy, any ideas?

You'll have to contact the Neology guys about that.
I dont think their Dialer can work through a router.

You're just jealous :)
And I bet you're dying to know whats in the boxes...

It's not the equipment that is put up, but the way it is put up... you won't find loose cables flapping in the breeze on one of our sites...

:p
