I think you're making the unwarranted assumption that ANC politicians are capable of doing elementary mathematics.
So, say you're earning R20k/month (240k)...how do you ever come to earning 550k then? You can't wait for inflation to get you there, thats stagnation. This makes no sense.
Companies will just "promote you", and you'll never get straight increases as we know it today. You'll just get "promotions", without the usual increases, but a higher pay, and nothing will change. With developers, we'll just start seeing more grades.
Dev in training - R18k
Junior Dev - R20k
Mid Junior Dev - R22k
etc etc etc
Senior Dev - R35k
Chief Dev - R40k
Dev Manager - R45k
etc

Okay, so what exactly does 550k pa buy you? Say you're the single bread-winner, you have a spouse and a couple of kids. You pay for your car, as well as your spouse's. You send your kids to decent schools. You have a house in a good neighbourhood. You have family abroad and intend to take the family there once in a while.... etc, etc... Idiots

I think what they need to do is when they come up with a new policy of sorts, they all need to sit around and have a good, hard think about it. Once they're satisfied with the route they want to take, they should do a 180 degree turn and implement the opposite. That would undoubtedly be what's best for the country.

By making the State the owner of all the assets being used and not the ministers themselves. All running costs, maintenance costs and other living costs will be covered by the state. So the entire R550k (less tax at a special rate) gets put into his pocket together with all the other kickbacks!
Yup, that's what I meant. The state pays so many things for them already that they just don't know (or care) what it costs

Ofc I aspire for more. However I realize that majority of human beings in South Africa (and the world) are suffering under the current system. A system that most posters here seem to support.
One thing is for sure something needs to change. What you call aspiration I would phrase it has selfishness. What we should aspire to is for the well being of all members of our species not only for the self.
The proposition provided Ebrahim Patel while not one of the best propositions around it is however a proposition that would bring change. If people feel its not great then come up with a better one. Has I said the system needs to change. I would prefer if it changed in our own terms instead of waiting for the ***** to hit the fan.
However I see the stance the posters in this thread have taken and it seems most don't care for the well being of others.
Well - Life isn't fair - and if you think I'm going to work for R550,000 doing three times as much as someone else working for R550,000 - you've got another thing coming.

The majority of ANC members earn less than R20k/m so they will obviously support this proposal.

No, greed is if you have more money than you and your family can spend in your lifetime, and you still screw people over for more, like those Wall Street bastards taking people's houses. Someone offering to pay you a lot of money to do a job isnt greed. Unfortunately life isn't fair, it never was, and never will be. The more you try to force it to be the more trouble you create. If everyone had the same no matter what they did, there would be no motivation to work hard or to innovate, and the human race would die out.
I really get the same impression and actually seems to be a world wide trait, just seems in Africa it is worse.

Oh it'll bring change all right. It'll make all the educated and hardworking people aspiring to success move the hell out of here. There goes most of the 7 million taxpayers. What will the other 40 million do then?
You know what suggestion I would make to help out the masses? Government should stop wasting money on R30 000 000 "conferences", stop wasting money on tenders by family and friends where they charge 700% what any other reasonable business will charge. Stop buying new million rand vehicles every year for politicians. Stop losing BILLIONS of rands to unscrupulous social grants.

So now I got the work because of BEE. I will never ever earn more than R 20 000 so I'll just do enough to never be fired. Lovely seems like a people that aspire to nothing to me.
