If this is only applicable to Government employees, then no problem.

But,

If this a industry wide proposal then it must qualify as a serious WTF moment of the year! A brain fart of considerable note!!!!

Cape Town - The government tabled its new growth path in Parliament on Tuesday, part of which proposes a cap on salaries and bonuses for senior managers and executives earning more than R550 000 a year.

The document, unveiled by Economic Development Minister Ebrahim Patel, also suggests a cap on increases for all those earning more than R20 000 a month.

It proposes "moderate wage settlements" for those earning between R3 000 and R20 000 a month, "possibly to inflation plus a modest real increase", with "inflation-level increases for those earning over R20 000 a month".

Patel said the document also called for a broad pact between business, labour and government.

Such a pact would include commitments on wages, prices, savings and jobs.

There was a proposal, for discussion with business and labour, for moderate wage settlements linked to clear commitments by business to save jobs, create new jobs and address inequality, he said.

They can forget about it. There are far too many businesses that need people that earn more than that, many of whom are doing big things for the country, contracted by the government.

If they want to cap the gov earners, that's up to them.

:erm:

I can understand minimum wage, but fail to understand how they can tell the private sector what is the max they may earn.

If they wanna cap gov employees to finally make the taxpayers' money go further = sure. Otherwise NO!

Only if this applies to guavamint employee's...

If they start trying to cap my salary or my increases then they can go fly a kite....

I fail to see how this could work in the private sector. Government employees... well then great, especially the 'top dogs'.

If they're aiming this at the private sector, well the private sector will just find creative ways of getting around it...

There are still a good number of people in the private sector who work bloody hard because they get paid for it.. if they cap these ppls salaries you can expect productivity in this country to fall through the floor.

Wow what a forked up guavamint we have to come up with something so stupid and to think there will be people out there that will support such a stupid idea. We already sit with a service delivery problem from the public sector, this will just worsen the issue even more :wtf:

1. Government cannot prescribe to private sector re: salaries. That being said, it is indeed true that middle management in this country is grossly overpaid and it is one of the things that ought to be rectified in order to rescue the country and get it to prosper economically.

2. Government is one of the biggest culprits, wastage of our taxes is unbelievable - nice spending someone else's money!

They need to do a salary cap and adjustment on all government employees. Especially non-skilled labour. They are earning way more than the private sector. The skilled guys are scarce, so they deserve money, fair enough.

Above inflation increases ACROSS the board in the public sector is obviously also not feasible. They need a new salary review system.

As for meddling in the private sector, they must be joking! Private sector companies are separate entities, you can't force salary caps on them. This country will lose skilled employees faster than Mugabe's white farmers. SA will go to the dogs.

So who creates 90% of the jobs in the private sector? People who get paid more than 550k per annum. Cap their pay, and they will have no incentive to create more jobs. Great plan guhvamint!!

So if I'm earning 21k and I'm only going to get inflation increases then I will basically be staying where I am. Awesome. If I wanted a dead end career I'd get a job in a govt dept thanks...

In the end, the salary cap will be realistic. That will be after all the skilled workers leave the country for another country which pays them a good salary and no other skilled labourers are produced because their is no motivation to work hard......
