When I go to EDGE settings it gives me three blank fields: 1. APN, 2. Username and 3. Password

Are you looking at the correct place?

AFAIK, its under Settings ->> General ->> Netowrk ->> EDGE, or somewhere along those lines.

Edge/iPhone hassles

Hi all

I am on Vodacom weekender package, have done the APN "internet" thing on my iPhone and still no luck! Anyone using iPhone on the Voda network successfully?

Love the thing to bits, but will happily let it go for R6999 if anyone wants it :D

Bought it in Dubai. The SA price of R8999 is such a RIP-OFF

iPhone on Vodacom

I bought the 8gb iPhone in Washington for $399 last month.

If you set DATA to "ON" and enter "internet" in the APN field your browser (Safari), Maps, Weather, stocks should work with Vodacom.

I am on a contract. If you need data on a pay-as-you-go - register on www.vodacom4me.co.za - you need to have at least R185-00 in your account - then you can "buy" a data package on the website - this will give you internet/data access.

Hi oldmanconsult

thanks guy, set it to "data" and it works perfectly

Good stuff

Thanks for this. My SO got her iPhone last night and after liberating it. I got her Edge going. One thing I found is that after setting the APN and setting Data to On I had to reboot before Safari would connect.

Thanks for the posts here. I can get Safari going now. Now, how the hell do I get the email going? I am with Vodacom and my email server is Xsinet (now owned by @lantic). What settings do I need to get the email going?

Chris

I can confirm that the internet APN also works for Cell C... Safari, Maps, weather and stocks all work... Damn! this is one cool gadget! Can't wait for the 3G edition!

phone up vodacom on 111 , keep pressing 0 to get to an operator and ask them to enable GPRS on your SIM... if they tell you to call Nashua Mobile then call them and tell them to do the same thing.. Should work a few hours or so after that (usually instantly after a reboot)

Thanks for the advice it worked for me too :D

since I've had my iphone I have only had GPRS and EDGE only for a few seconds. Is here a setting to choose EDGE over GPRS ?
