GPSD Battery Drain on cell Network

For the ignorant among us, me in particular:

GPSD = is a daemon that receives data from a GPS receiver, and provides the data back to multiple applications such as Kismet or GPS navigation software. It thus provides a unified interface to receivers of different types, and allows concurrent access by multiple applications.

Best wishes to you in this regard.

gpsd is not the problem. It's an app accessing gpsd, or rather trying to access your location, that's causing the problem.

Hi, if you say it is not gpsd, do you have a solution? I have tried everything and it always comes back at around 3 months interval. The only solution that sometimes work is switching to GSM mode only. This is very frustrating because it just started today again on my phone without any changes made to it.

Is anyone else getting this again? Today my battery went from 50% to 0 in 2 hours.

Yes this is also happening to me. I have tried everything again and it always comes back at around 3 months interval. The only solution still is to switch to GSM mode only.

Was this issue ever resolved? I am experiencing the same battery drain on Samsung S4 after moving over to Cell C from MTN last week. Switching to GSM only reduces the drain rate drastically.

I played around with a lot of settings. Out of desperation I removed the weather widget. Up to now this hasn't happened again.

Now I don't know if it was the widget or perhaps the network operators did something on the network itself. Good luck in finding a solution.

Thanks for the heads-up, I also went and disabled a few apps which listed location under permissions. This initially did not seem to make a difference. Lo and behold, a few days later and my phone's battery life seems to have improved!
