GPSD Battery Drain on cell Network

Any update from cell c??
I have switched to 2g and using Wi-Fi. Battery is at 75% which is amazing.
Normally use automatic and Wi-Fi and is normally about 50% by now.
Yesterday the battery was at 20% due to gpsd.

Good luck in getting a network operator to accept responsibility for this issue, I am on MTN. My problem has magically disappeared again. I hope it stays this way.

Hi beatlexx

Does the issue still persist?

I am on the MTN network. Two days after my post the issue disappeared again. I just hope it stays this way and doesn't appear again in a couple of months.

Thanks for the interest.

@barrytemp Did you receive a response from Cell C? What was the resolution?

Mine has started up again this morning with its issues, after 2 months.

I'm also experiencing heavy battery drain lately.

Last night I left my phone on charge for the whole night - it was about halfway charged this morning. 8 hours later.

Mine has also started up again. But I have moved to Telkom Mobile since the last time...

Same issue here, also moved to telkom mobile a few moths ago. Friend of mine on MTN is also experienceing gpsd battery drain.

I have a suspicion that news24 app is the culprit (why do they need to use location settings, probably for weather but you can not turn it off as far as I can see).

This is irritating!

Also experiencing large battery drain on S5 with MTN over the last few days. GPS is off and no apps are set to use location. No new apps installed. Same setup as a month ago, but now gpsd is using significant amount of battery. Same issue with a friend on MTN with S4.

My wife had the same issue yesterday on her S5, also with MTN. Seems to be going better today.

I'm having the same issue on my GS5 on MTN. It seems to be an intermittent thing.

Try uninstal Google Maps. Then reboot. Then reinstall.

I've noticed it after using an app that needs location, but it has also just appeared on it's own. Restarting the handset removes it for me.

Is anyone else getting this again? Today my battery went from 50% to 0 in 2 hours.

GPSD (again) and data usage

I have 2 issues on CellC at the moment:

My cell battery is draining very very quickly. It lasted just over 5 hours to 0% battery, I usually get to 50% after 16 hours. Traced it to my old friend GPSD which has used 89.6% of my battery. Cell C made changes again?

My mobile data is disappearing very fast. My data usage on my phone (Android) reports 144MB used. Cell C reports 74MB left out of my 300MB, so 226MB used. Normally my phone reports higher usage due to free WhattsApp data.
