GPSD Battery Drain on cell Network

I have even gone as far as to put my phone in ultra battery saving mode and gpsd still was the highest consumer of battery. Samsung S5 on cell C network.

GPSD was on 35% on GS4 (CellC) - after enabling GSM only the screen is at the top of the battery list. I think my S4 battery condition has been affected by all the drainage of the past few days - it discharges much quicker now than a week or so ago? I do not have a Samsung account therefore no remote controls running...

Agree. There seems to be no response from Cellc and they are not logging our calls. Did u try to o log a call? Anyone with a contact inside Cellc?

I still think its their free WhatsApp causing it

Let's face it, cell c network is the worst, on 3g I can't get data throughput even when there is plenty signal

Are Samsung aware of the problem?

You indicated that this problem occurs on other networks as well. Do they also have free WhatsApp?

Anyone experiencing this problem with a custom ROM?

I had my phone a Samsung the other day all they did was re-install the phones software that did not help

Pity the Cell C rep don't care enough to give us more input from their side.

I noticed increased battery drain on my S3 over the last couple weeks too, I just assumed it was my custom ROM causing the issues. Then I found this thread and found out it is plaguing me too.

This is very interesting. Let me add something else onto what's already been said:
A couple of days ago my GPS stopped working on my Galaxy S2 (I have a CellC sim in it). I can't get any lock on it no matter what I did.

The problem started a day or so after I updated Cyanogenmod CM11 on the S2 from release M9 to M11. I thought the update caused the issue and flashed it back to the M9. No change. I then tried a few other custom roms. Also without any success. Today I eventually flashed back to the stock Samsung rom. GPS still not working. I started to think it's a hardware issue and the GPS module in my trusty S2 finally gave up the ghost.

I came across this thread and thought maybe the CellC sim is causing the GPS issue. Swapped the CellC sim for a Vodacom sim and my GPS started working again! Had a lock on it within a few seconds.

So there is definitely something going on with the CellC network and GPS.

Found a third colleague today (on S3) who is also having the same GPSD battery drain --- on cellc network too:mad:

I've gone as far as switching off my data and GPSD is still draining my battery.

Try what the previous comments state. Got toreboot phone after switching to 2g and kill the remotecontrol application under apps - running. It worked.

This issue appears to have occurred after software update to 4.4.2 (kit-kat) for the Samsung S4. We are still investigating the root cause. *DM*

Also getting this.

I'm done with Cell C. I'm still on contract, but I'm over it. I'm going to pay R150 per month for a vodacom sim.

I should have done this ages ago. Cell C's network is just too bad.

Does anyone know what will happen if I port my current Cell C contract number to Vodacom?

Thanks for update. But seen it on an S3 too on cellc but maybe not as severe a drain.
