Green light in jozi sky

Saw it also... not sure what time exactly. Seemed like an extremely bright lightning strike, but was silent, and not as abrupt. I saw the sky fade from black to bluish-white and then back over about 1-1.5 seconds. In Centurion, saw it to the north.
 
Dammit.. I just missed it. I was taking photos with my camera around this time and i didn't see anything :/
 
Jip have seen it to In hartbeespoort dam. Almost looked like daylight for a few seconds. not sure if it was a meteor or not. pretty cool ...
 
2 Sightings in a week.. future enough for me... lets see if more come in the week ahead
If there are more... then I'll be watching the sky a litttttle more eagerly

Maybe Nostradamus was right again... big one in 2012 (21st Dec?)... or was it 2010 .. ooh
 
Was checking my security cam's recordings from last night and saw the change in light from the normal spotlights I have up, to a very definite green colour. From 22h53:28 to 22h55:19. Starts off with a very bright flash ,like lightening, and then a green hue.

WTF is Jozi?
Jozi sounds like a overweight sleazy prostitute. I hate it when people refer to Johannesburg as Jozi!

What's wrong with calling it Joburg?
 
I saw the very same thing about a month ago in Durban, I was driving from Pinetown down the M7 towards Durban, and the whole sky went like daylight with two different coloured flashes. I think it was an orange flash then a white/blue flash in quick succession if I recall correctly. I spent ages on the internet looking up all sorts of phenomena, and eventually found some videos of meteors and it was most definitely that. So thats another one to add on the list. :)

It is also not the first time I have seen this. I also saw a very similar double flash, with different colours a year ago, Driving from Kokstad to Port Shepstone late at night
 
we are in the middle of the Leonid meteor shower, so maybe you got lucky and saw a big one break up, if hit had hit the ground and it was a as big as you say it is you would have know all about it. :D

Would you be able to supply a picture for we who do not reside in Joburg? I would love to see what it looked like, but haven't spotted any pics yet.
 
well we just had the leonid meteor shower in the northern hemisphere.
Could be that the patch of space were zooming through has a bit more debris adn we got lucky here in southern hemisphere to actually see one of the meteors.
