Groupon back-pedals on Windows 8 Pro deal

Damm Groupon sharks and as far as I know it's not the first time they retrackted some offers and promises or gave false info. It sounded to good too be true to me, so I didn't do it last night. Good luck to you guys who did, hammer the basterds.

I've posted the question on MS South Africa's Facebook page. If they have an SA presence and sell stuff in SA - it must be in Rands .. otherwise why not just price everything in USD in the brick and mortar shops too?

As for the pricing in USD and loosing ground against the ZAR - that is what currency futures contracts are for.

Because whoever the brick and mortar store got it from (importer) already paid for it in USD. The conversion does not need to be done twice.

Shot. I did actually skim through the Windows 8 Wikipedia page but I didn't see any comparison tables or immediately obvious info.

I have zero interest in Media Centre, nor in the remote desktop, domain logon etc. features, so I guess the regular Windows 8 is fine for me.

But yes quick scan tells me , Windows 8 [without Pro] = similar to Windows 7 Home Premium . Windows 8 Pro = Windows 7 Pro . Main things being Remote Desktop (which is easily bypassed with VNC/Teamviewer etc) and Domain Logon (which home users don't normally use).

Thanks a bunch. I'm still not sold though. A thousand bucks is a lot of money for a product that doesn't come packaged properly, is over double the upgrade cost, has no support and is tethered to hardware forever. I will run Windows 8 until its successor, and I'm certain I will overhaul my system during that time.

Windows must be the most pirated software on earth, yet Microsoft are making it virtually impossible for people to go legit. Even if I was to buy a new PC right now, I would purchase individual components and need a standalone OS installation.

MyBroadband contacted Groupon South Africa to clarify the confusion and whether consumers will be able to claim a refund, but the company did not respond by the time of publication.

One of the few things that really piss me off, is being lied to. Groupon just made my list.
 
The problem now with Groupon is not well "Techie" people also bought the Windows 8 "upgrade" option and thought it was a Full product. I think they must get they act together and refund everyone because most people want to buy the Full product not the upgrade

Just show how much people are complaining about their service! Wait until they receive the "Upgrade" product!

The big problem is they LIED. You don't save 1400 by buying from them, you save -70 because it's cheaper in the shop. :mad:

And as others have said, and after some digging myself, all their other offers seem to be scams as well. Every time they say you "save" 70% or 50% or whatever, you can get the product for their "special" price already, just look on pricecheck.co.za.

Filthy, thieving bastards.

But like I said, I'm not wasting my time and energy on trying to get a refund from them, I'm going to get an old copy of XP from an old laptop or something at work, re-activate that bad boy and then install my upgrade. Or if that doesn't work, just the good old "remove from inventory". I paid for Windows 8, I'm ****ing well getting Windows 8.
 
Like I said before...you right, we will anyway spend more then R600 on a telephone bill anyway...but this is for sure the last time I'll ever deal with them anyway. Will just make their name bad as far as I will go!

All the crap on their site is now 20-50% more expensive than at the shops. Also looks like they just source it from their local China Towns.

Blegh, bought this on the assumption that myBB were right on with their article, but alas it looks like I will have to put it down to school fees...

Don't blame myBB or Groupon for that matter, MS really have been unclear as to what they are actually selling.

Cancel the damn deal and complain to your bank so you can get the charge reversed...

Why the hell are people just going "Oh well, I guess I learnt a lesson"... you have options to get your money back, ESPECIALLY because Groupon lied.
