Guilty! (Power cut headline)

Johannesburg - South Africa's gold mines, and mining companies in other sectors, were instructed on Thursday night by electricity utility Eskom to shut their mines, possibly for up to between two to six weeks.

A letter signed by Eskom CEO Jacob Maroga said that key industrial consumers (KPI) had to reduce their power loads to "minimum levels". He added that Eskom could not guarantee power supply.

In the letter, Maroga said the mines were required to "evacuate all underground staff"; "suspend all surface and underground mining"; but were allowed to keep essential services operating such as pumping and lighting. Mining companies would also be allowed underground if proto-teams were required to tackle fires.

While not saying "shut down", what else does "minimum levels" mean?
"Minimum levels" is the equivalent of a few lights and nothing else, in my book.

Perhaps old Jacob is incapable of reading, and "signing" is a X and a thumb print.

When will you stop lying Maroga?

bring on zuma!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ppl may like him but im telling you now he will kick ass and get this country right

mandela must kicking himself when he hears the name mbeki aka the idiot

We actually need some intelligence - not another idiot. The rocket scientist we currently have wasting oxygen in the Union Buildings surrounded himself with people dumber than himself. Zuma can only have surrounded himself with people cleverer than he is - just they all belong in prison and probably have no clue on how to run a country.

Sorry Moederloos, i want to ask a question...Is it MOEDERLOOS OR MOEDELOOS??

It was a bad pun from a soutie :D

I was a bit liquored up when I joined, and very p1ssed off about something.

And the rest is history...

:D - nah, I reckon sooner than later, the article gives more detail. 500K workers each supporting , dunno 5 - 8 peoplz, dammit we need those mines up yesterday. More delay and their could be major retrenchments. Thinking more on the lines of gold mines, where their costs have just been rising and they have not been showing great profits. Plat mines have a better buffer, since they don't only mine plat, but palladium, rhodium <$7000 per troy ounce>, gold, nickel, zinc etc. Plus their mines are generally shallower than gold mines, so cheaper to haul ore out the ground.
