GW vs. WoW

WOW>GW anyday

look who has more players and more play time

Another fanboy?

It's up to personal preference ... besides Guildwars has millions of copies sold. It's also a younger game than WoW. GW is also under continuous development, and is permanently being patched, adjusted and updated. And you don't get charged for the support or to play the game. That's the big bonus for me.

havent played wow, so i dont qualify for comment on gw being better or worse.

That said.. for me no game can be good enough to justify buying it each month.

a Problem i have with guildwars is that last night i was in a town and there was no-one on any of the districts to do the mission with me.

Yeah, I've noticed that factions can get a little quiet sometimes, especially outside Kaineng. Most of the people seem to be on Nightfall and Eye of the North - and Prophecies, strangely enough, doesn't seem too quiet either.

That's because the Factions PvE campaign in relation leaves much to be desired.

Pretty much ... Nightfall is by far my favourite campaign of the three. Had to get Factions though to get hold of the Assassin class - but Dervish is still my favourite ... followed by Ele's :D

I love Prophecies the most by far. I'll never forget those moments I shared with people back when Prophecies was the only campaign. I miss those days!

I don't have any fancy statistics to show you which game is better. I'll just bring it down to fun factor and personal preference. Personally I love WoW, I actually gave up on it last February because I couldn't balance WoW, exams, work and a girlfriend.

Recently I finished my studies and I've had some more free time so I decided to buy GuildWars : The Complete Collection from BTGames. All I can say is that I have never been more bored with a game in my life. I literally dozed off twice in the 10 hours I put into the game trying to find the fun factor.

The reason that I didn't pick WoW again is that I'm waiting for WoTLK before resuming the game, since just about all current game equipment will be obsolete when the expansion gets released it would just be a waste of time and money to farm new gear at present.

As I said before, it boils down to personal preference, I'm sure alot of folks on this forum would disagree with my opinion and I'm sure they have a fantastic time in Guild Wars, honestly I wish I could say the same so that I wouldnt feel that my money has been wasted on it.

its more a matter of who you play with. I`m sure any mmo can be good if you play it with the right people.

Choosing to buy world of warcraft is a big decision, you know youre going get addicted, you have to invest ALOT of time in it, and you have to budget for it. I seriously considered it until weighing the positive/negative effects it will have on my life.

Guild wars is a good altirnative for people who want to get an idea what the mmo fuss is about without investing their lives in it.
I finished the factions campaign last night after about a month, and like any other game i`ve played i can put it down now.

The graphics in GW still amazes me!
It is astounding what they have managed to do. It is bloody beautiful, the dungeons in EotN.. the lanscapes in BMP is stunning.
Overall, with GW being a MMO and looking great.. it is pretty damn awesome.
I don't pay for games that I already bought.
Plus, I don't like the ability of someone being overpowered / invulnerable, simply because you either have more time to play (since you have to cause your $'s are wasting away if you are not logged in) or have enough money to buy the gold to buy your uber elite gear.
I also prefer to use skill, especially in PvP.

As you can see it is all about the freedom of choice.

I use screenshots as Windows wallpapers, as well as for areas in my pen & paper D&D campaign.

Im sorry but i find WoW (as i play it) very fun, there is alot of PVP aswell like in the Battle grounds like AV / AB / WSG / EOTS..

But as a personal experience of GW - I havent tried it yet

I've played both Guild Wars and WoW (on official servers) and I must say that I greatly prefer Guild Wars. The reason being is that I don't think that WoW is worth the monthly charges for the extra bit it has over GW. And i love GW's PvP.

I play wow. Probably mainly because my friends do as well. Played a bit of GW. Felt strange not seeing anyone while im questing, but thats probably only because i only spent 15 minutes in the game. Tbh, if my friends played GW, i probablly would as well. Im not fussed about the subs for WoW. New content is provided fairly regularly in patches, not just the expansions.

Right lets compare the armor pieces.Wow has billions of diff skins, styles, etc whilst guildwars has about 150 (and no dyed armor pieces dont count as new skins is the exact same thing the coding for it is just tweaked abit so that the colour is diff)

Skill:
Niether of these games need skill u just spam ur combo and viola u own every single mob/player u find i mean serously just go to gwwiki get a nice template for yourself and just spam the buttons the way they tell you too and there ur leet

Overall fun:
Gw just feels like a endless grind for my once u reach lv 20 theres absolutely nothing to do except farm farm farm farm farm and more farm...In wow on the other hand u can go do some nice raiding which is tonsa fun i dont go and raid for the wtfpwn gear i can get no i pvp for the endless fun we have(like skaapbal's kamikaze runs),yes I know gw has dungeons but they are just tiring pieces of **** where it just endless killing and sometimes maybe abit of variation whilst in wow every single boss has a tactic(lv 60+ instance/raids mostly though rest is just nuking sometimes with abit of tactics)

You're mistaken about the GuildWars armour. For example, for Warriors alone, there are 32 completely different armours, each consisting of 5 pieces. Those pieces can be mix-matched into hundreds or thousands of combinations. And that's not even taking into account colour choices, or special iems (like Chaos gloves).

I dunno about WoW, but GW needs skill. It's all very well taking some skill templates off the Wiki, but making a good hero/henchman team that combines skills effectively takes skill and practice. And doing missions oftens if far more difficult that simply killing everything in your path.

In GW, you reach 20th level about 20% of the way into whatever campaign you're doing. After that, you still have the rest of the campaign, plus the other campaigns and additions to do, and plenty of other non-grind objectives along the way (like going for Explorer titels).

Claymore stole all my answers 0.o Damn you!!!

Especially on the skill bit ... yeah ... you can go get skill templates off the wiki if you really have to ... but personally, I've never used them - part of the fun for me is figuring out my own builds.

And spamming? Well, yeah, certainly you can build spam builds - but you get 10 times more effect if you can combine those with non-spammy skills. It takes practice. A noob with a wiki template will get pwned by an experienced player who's worked out his own build. I've taken my elementalist up against warriors and assassins one on one numerous times - and come out on top 50/50.

And then there's title-hunting. Worth a bit of grind in my book.
