I get 1mb/s download and about 0.5b/s upload. My ping is closer to 67ms - which tower do you connect to rebel998?

Been with them for almost a year now ... it's been a long journey.

The problem now is with their upstream (Neotel) as it seems like the Screamer network has stablised.

True, its been a long journey but they have progressed quite a bit. I reckon they're probably the biggest WISP?:D

With this Afrihost special going on, I have to ask the question, if Screamer are going to come to the price party and drop their ridicules price of R 90.00 per Gig to a more acceptable price, knowing that they get the bandwidth from IS, same as Afrihost. The average consumer price on a Gig on most ADSL ISP's is around R 50.00 to R59.00 PER GIG. Maybe Screamer can come and answer why are their Gigs so much more expensive if it comes from the same pool as ADSL ISP's using. We guys that are dependent on wireless are getting a raw deal here as far as price is concerned.

I am listening at the radio for any answers from screamer!! :D

Sounds like RSG! LOL!!:D

Uhmm, you spelled it wrong, it is actually spelled the same way they announce it, like this:

Errr Es GEEE.

See, same principle for the SABC:

eS aY BEE Cee

But tell me, don't you agree that 90 bucks is a bid too steep?

I'm just too glad Screamer has coverage here. Telkom cables don't last and it is cheaper than 3G.:D

Yes, you are right, that we have screamer where there is no adsl, and without them we would not be writing here, and they are cheaper than 3G, I agree but.... t.... t....t

As you said in a previous post:

Should they only be the biggest, or also the biggest and the best priced WISP? I mean, if they can come out with a strategy like Afrihost, where we, the clients can benefit more than just being thankfull that we have coverage, they can only grow bigger, and even rob a few ADSL clients away to them as well.

lol!!

Well Mr Hart....how about lowering the price?

Screamer is still the least expensive option for me.

Who is this Afrihost I hear so much about?:D

My results are similar - although by uplink is closer to 0.5mbps but my latency is 67ms.

More importantly for me is my international latency to the Wow servers in Europe where I get 230 -320ms on average using a proxy. This includes running VoIP in the background. On average I get one disconnect during a 120 min session.

Working well for me atm.

I had 40-70% packet loss on the server in Harrismith - then I called the representative.

now the result from pingtest.net

"Acceptable. Your VoIP quality will suffer some, and you will have a disadvantage in many online games. Most streaming media will be fine."

:) in my experience VOIP is not usable at all...

:erm: I know there is still nothing to write home about... but I have to admit this is still better than the alternative ( VSAT)

Are out of reach of ADSL coverage on a farm ?

I am surprised WiSP do not sell as this an option, you install your own ADSL
line at their PoP or a friend who is on their wireless network in Town and you use the ADSL Router as your gateway and not Screamers gateway.
(open to abuse as someone else could use your bandwidth, have to limit which source IP addresses can access the ADSL router)

You will pay a small fee for the use of the their network (last mile carrier) from Harrismith to your location
