CDC outlining same issues with BMI
BMI is inaccurate because it measures weight in accordance with height, not fat or muscle. Surely you agree with that, and that other measurements are more accurate, which is what we are talking about.
You're the one who diagnosed OP as overweight without factoring all that in.Nope, there are three builds that a doctor will adjust BMI for. Endomorph, Ectomorph and Mesomorph. It's far more complicated than just a BMI figure. But you gym guys know better. Don't let me stop you from shouting your mouths off.
Being fat isn't healthy. Do you honestly need to a doctor to tell you this or argue about the relevance of BMI to try and weasel around justifying fatness?I take it you're a doctor and know this?
Your undying love of the medical doctor is cute, but the profession is no longer as it was in the past. Most of these qualified people are no more than patient mills for the insurance companies. Now now, I know this might sit not well with you, but take into account your "experience" was gleaned from a time when the health industry was not governed by the Medical aids and their affiliation to the drug companies.Nope, there are three builds that a doctor will adjust BMI for. How do you measure fatness then?
Body fat %.
The flaw with BMI is that it doesn’t factor in the muscle/fat proportions of your body,
Anecdotally I am 99kg and 188cm.That gives me a BMI of 28 which is classified as overweight.I’m definitely not overweight - my pant size is 34 and my body fat % is about 20% which I would consider to be in the fit range.
Where did you get that pic of @ShaunSA ?
Stick to the basics, whey, creatine and glutamine. I cycle creatine purely because it makes my nauseous. 3 months on and 3 months off - it also makes me retain about 4kg of water.Quick background
I’m a 49 year old in pretty decent shape ( many think I’m in my mid 30’s)
Am starting to hit the weights with my 15 year old but the body ain’t what it used to be.
Please advise on good supplements to build decent muscle and some weight loss.
I’m 178cm and around 95kg’s.
There are so many products out there.
I fully understand that diet is a huge factor but am looking for something to assist.

Body Fat Calculator
This free body fat calculator estimates body fat percentage based on the U.S. Navy Method and the BMI method. It gives the loss needed to reach ideal body fat.www.calculator.net
I would pay good money to see you say that to his face.Do you think his build is natural? BMI is calculated on natural humans, not freaks.
Really accurate...i have 5% body fat according to that and am now in the unhealthy lean range. I can assure you, I am as far from 5% as I am from being obese.
Again, there are more accurate ways to measure these things which is what everyone is trying to tell you. Extreme examples are given to show that BMI is not accurate
Do you disagree with that?
