Is anyone else experiencing crashes and unexpected quits??

I no longer can convert anything anymore as it crashes.

I have VLC v1.0.1 installed, SL 10.6.1 and Handbrake 0.9.3.

I have been reading on their forums and very few people have also being experiencing the same crashes.

I have fixed Macintosh permissions and booted up in Safe Mode to try fix the problem but still to no avail.

I am now using a 'beta' 64-bit version of 0.9.4 and re-attempting my conversion.

Will let you know if it works.

When I first upgraded to SL I too was getting lots of crashing when saving, importing or opening files from within an application.

I personally believe it has something to do with cache and you should try the Snow Leopard Cache Cleaner app to see if this fixes your problem.

I did a clean install last week and I haven't had a crash since. So if all else fails, backup and do a clean install of SL

I just recently bought Cocktail instead of SLCC - but it basically does the same thing. But still got those crashes.

My 64-bit Handbrake conversion is at 65% now and luckily no crash yet... :erm:

What a mission to perform a back up and a clean install - but I guess I have to cos most of people I read on other forums experienced no problems with clean installs.

If you're trying to decrypt the DVD with VLC, that won't work in SL apparently because VLC is not 64-bit. Try ripping the DVD with Ripit or mactheripper then compressing with Handbrake.

It worked! I was converting a mkv file that was using the DTS Audio codec to a AAC codec so I can play it on my WDTV.

Will be doing a clean install over the weekend when i have some time..

Cool, thanks! Had the same issue last Sunday trying to convert mkv dts to aac for the wdtv.

I'll give this a try.

I was also having troubles with Handbrake 0.9.3 on Leopard and now on SL 10.6.1 as well. I haven't tried HB 0.9.4 64bit but I did reinstall HB 0.9.2 and haven't had an problems with it on SL and best of all it still rips encrypted DVD's. So if you can find .dmg of HB 0.9.2 maybe give it a try.

The snapshot version of 0.9.4 is very unstable. It works converting mkv files with dts to aac. But last night I tried converting a vob to a m4a and it crashed! :(

VLC needs to release a 64-bit version and 0.9.4 of HB needs to also get released! :(
