Hangouts: Unified Messaging from Google

I am really enjoying the app now that I have the hang of it. It works much better for me than Whatsapp as I can use it on PC.

Am I the only one concerned about this issue or am I just paranoid here? :erm:

I'm of the opposite opinion.

I prefer giving it ALL to one company rather than distributing it all over the place.

Makes for keeping track of stuff so much easier.
 
Had a hang out with my brother last night. The app works pretty well and didn't have any issues. Quality could be better as we usually use Facetime which works really well for video chats, it's definitely not anywhere near as clear as Facetime.
 
I am loving this!

I am using the Chrome plugin, and if I go make coffee or whatever, I can continue on my phone. This sync across all devices is a killer feature that Whatsapp sorely needed. Me and my wife already switched over permanently, and I am getting as many people as I can to do the switch.

Agreed. The sync works great. I have two pc's and Android, and it knows where I am. Almost real time

/ponystream was what sold my wife
 
Am I the only one who dislikes this app, for two reasons:
1. There's no voice chatting available - only video or text.
2. Really big irritation for me - There's no way to tell if someone's online or not until after you've sent them a message. The whole point of instant messaging for me is that you can tell if someone is online and use Gtalk instead of SMS, now it's a complete guess and has forced me to go back to SMS for a lot of conversations.

Otherwise it's great, but lack of presence indicators is a big deal breaker for me.

I'm also irritated by the fact that I can't see who's online. Still have the old client on desktop though.

Yeah. Though you can't really see who's online with Whatsapp. And I prefer that people don't know I'm online, but I'd still like some indication that they use the service regularly (like Whatsapp's last seen time)

On the desktop you have online indicators, they just retardedly did not put it in on mobile. I guess they assumingits hangouts mobile you will always be online. GUess that may be almost true for USA and Europe where WiFi is a plenty

Just switch the video off and you have voice chat.

Proper Google Voice including calling to terrestrial numbers and sending SMS will be coming soon.
 
Desktop mode is driving me mental. It stacks horizontally along the bottom and won't snap vertically. Blocks all my applications.

Yeah, the desktop one actually sucks for us that use it for work.

1. The contact list is STILL too big - cannot get used to it.
2. It really sucks at showing who is online/offline.
3. You cannot really copy/pate conversations anymore
4. Click and drag file sharing is impossible
5. Those speech bubbles are STUPID!


...it's become a social kiddie toy instead of the "workhorse" im I used it for.
