Good price. But some people on here don't have good things to say about Mushkin.

Going against my natural grain, admittedly I only watched one review where they rated those source drives as good bang for buck. Guess I'll be back later with a rant if it all goes Pete Tong.

Problem with that is it goes Pete Tong with the data on it guess now you have the chance to have a backup strategy in place from Day-0

That has been my plan. I have one reliable but old 7200 drive and so I recently bought a WD Black as a backup and extra storage. I will ensure that everything critical goes on that drive. So essentially I'll be running a 2x HDD backup and one (by the sound of it) risky SSD setup.

My biggest issue then would hopefully be, probably since I'm not clued up about these things, the time involved in reinstalling OS and all apps should Pete Tong come round for a visit.

A quick question for the clever people: Is it possible for me to retain my current win install to lie dormant in case I need it and create a new one on the SSD? Sorry to hijack.

You can clone your install to another hdd or ssd. Then you can just plug in the drive to boot from it.

I think I done my cloning with ease us, Samsung app is also very good but only works with Samsung ssd.

Is it possible to have the other drive plugged in but just prioritise boot order to use the SSD?

Bought two of those a while back. One is very sluggish, and the other just died a day ago. Detects for a few seconds, then disappears...

The only SSD and RAM that ever failed on me was Mushkin.

You get disk imaging software (i use Acronis true image) that can make a full image based backup of your OS drive.. this image file can be stored somewhere safe in your backup archives and if you need to reinstall your OS, you just use the software to restore the image as opposed to a clean install and reinstalling all your apps etc..

This has the obvious advantage of being a point in time backup.. so, for example, if you update Windows now and all your drivers etc and then image your OS drive, you can restore that image to the same or new drive and it will be like nothing has changed.. now, the disadvantage of this is, if that reinstall happens two years later, say, you are two years out of date.. to avoid this, you can do an incremental backup of your OS once a month to only backup anything that has changed.. however, you can't lose any parts of the backup files, so keep them safe..
