Careful with crucial ssd's if you have a Lenovo pc/laptop. A lot of the crucial models are not supported and the machine wont even post.

To me it was unheard of until recently but is it true that generic chargers will not work on Lenovo laptops? If that's true it's also possible certain ssds won't work

Bios locked, ask Lenovo why they do it. Had several models from Lenovo for clients that refused to work with crucial ssd's. (3/4/5 and 6th gen)

And yea that's entirely possible. HP love doing it with their fancy units and the spectre/elite tablets. No official charger, no power :P

They were locking BIOS with a whitelist for the last decade or more. Mostly common for WiFi and cellular modules, but not hard drives. Whitelisting SSD's is something specific to Lenovo. They do it, as you don't care.

That's old news but decent generic/aftermarket chargers do work with Lenovo(And dell/Hp), I have one that does. But Ssd's use a standardised interface and architecture, chargers are not made like that.

I think it's more a compatibility issue with some of the ssd controllers Crucial uses rather than bios lock/whitelist, they do that whitelist thing with thibgs like Wan and wireless modules never heard of it happening with the hdd interface.
