Two original replacement blades cost more than the device? Are there any cheaper blades available or is this like a colour laser printer where they sell you the printer at a very low cost and then rob you when you need to replace the toner cartridges?

OK I see that you can get cheaper replacements on AliExpress ...
I have yet to see aftermarket blades that are good, just buy the originals when they are on special, they last a long time, far longer than 4 months.

In the past I have bought several new Philips electric shavers because the cost of replacement heads in SA has always been unreasonable.

I think the lowest I have seen one blade is R249 but they seem to go for around R350

Philips OneBlade for R329, worth it just for the blade and USB charging cable, if you've never tried one I have never seen them this cheap, they also work great:
