Probably true, confirm it on one of the benchmark sites.

Also discovered the same thing with the latest version of the SanDisk Ultra Fit USB 3 flash drives, half the write speed of the old version. Around 40MBs down to 20MBs and crappy plastic USB housing vs metal on the old one. Why the heck they would do that is beyond me
