I have a cheapie that works pretty well for that, although I guess it continues to top up the battery while outputting.

Put the raspberry pie near your alarm system if you have and get a 12v to 5v converter and hook it to the battery. That’s what I did for a router and a rpi that I use for node red and pi hole.

That's actually a good idea. My alarm is about 2m from my Pi.

I don't have a 12V to 5V converter. Where do I get one?

Something like this might work? You preferably want some type of switching converter as a linear regulator wastes a lot of power.

There are plenty around, you are welcome to come get one from me as I have a few lying around if you in Pretoria.

Just google 12v to 5v usb

Thanks for the offer. Im in Richards Bay though. Ill look around locally here or Ill order one online if I cant find one

I have one of those already. How do I connect it to the Pi usb c input though? Is there such a thing as DC to usb cable?

Ah, I thought it had a power plug. But USB cables aren't hard to wire to a plug.
 
Anyone seen a good deal or can recommend a psu / battery back up for a home wifi router ?
