You can fit approximately 625 movies on a 500GB hdd. No way you are going to watch that many in a short time.

Also, copying between drives is a lot faster than copying to and from the same drive, although this doesn't seem to be your concern, if you want to use it for mobility.

7-800mb/movie.... differant strokes for differant folks i guess but i ain't coming to watch movies over your place.;)

Yeah its a mobility thing and maybe i'll take the risk with one,Make sure i have disc backups to fall back on.

Why don't you get the Seagate ES series? It's enterprised series with much better reliability.

That is also what I was thinking.

What is absolutely hilarious to me is that it is always the competitor that releases statements like that.

Failure rates, like any statistic, is ambiguous. Seagate has the largest market share, and would obviously have a "higher" failure rate returned. :)

Seagate drives are, in fact, very stable.

I still have a seagate hdd, that is roughly 12 years old. Still works perfectly.

I had 3 Western Digital drives, 2 IDE, 1 SATA, and of the three, both the SATA and one IDE failed with 8 months.

There is nothing wrong with the .11 series.

I won't go with the ES series as they are made for servers and stuff that run around the clock - not recommended for desktop use! Reliability is nice and all, sure, but it takes a big bite out of performance.

Personally, for normal use, Performance > Reliability. The normal drives are already quite reliable in any case. But if I had a server that ran 25/8/367, then sure - I'd go for the ES Series.

There are some very good prices over here: http://www.ikonicit.co.za/

I'm not sure if it's a new place, but I hadn't heard of it until yesterday. Has anyone bought from them before?

The CPU, mobo and graphics prices are very nice. Some of the RAM too. Actually, everything seems cheaper than most places. :p They have the Samsung 2232GW for R2599, makes me want it even more. :(

Does anyone know if there are any stores that run the promotion that IC run every year whereby you can bring in your old hardware (monitors, printers etc) and then they give you a discount off a new one?

I have emailed Makro but, shock horror, they have not replied.
