Glad to see this thread is still going strong :)

I am looking for a keyboard. For a PC. That does not suck. I cannot find anything even slightly decent for under R1000. Has the world gone mad?

I am thinking brushed aluminium and something close to the keys one finds on a laptop.

You can get them bundled with iMac clones. But I don't want that. I just want a keyboard. Any ideas?

What about an Enermax Aurora Keyboard?

Maby have a look at the Cyborg V7 aswell, laptop keys but it is very much gamer looking but it has everything you would need in a keyboard, media keys and if you constantly type the same words/sentences you can add them to the macro buttons via the included software.

This sounds exciting. Specially the fact that it has laptop keys.

Winning :-)

Logitech flat keyboards (i.e. Logitech Illuminated, my recommendation) have a better mechanism IMO. Initially I thought the Enermax was good, but the keys' lettering faded. The Illuminated has laser-etched keys. Enermax uses laptop keys akin to laptops from a good 4+ years ago - basically a matt plastic with sharp edges, if I can call it that (you don't really feel the sharpness), with a clicky feel/sound. It's an old design. Benefit of the Enermax would be USB/audio ports. It's heavy.

The K800 is the Logitech Illunimated wireless version. Also check Corsair K60 mechanical. Game are also selling that Logitech flat keyboard for R159 IIRC. Microsoft also has a keyboard similar to the Illuminated, think it's a Sidewinder something.

Some say nothing beats a good standard layout mechanical keyboard - Steelseries 6GV2 or 7G with palm rest.

Whatever you do, don't get a Razer Lycosa.

Mr Pot, good to see you are still around, giving good advice!

I am heading to the malls today to see if there is anything they can offer me, which I doubt. Apparently the sheep that shop at retail outlets these days don't need keyboards. Not good ones anyway.

Honestly for R1k and less I'd look for a Logitech Illuminated (seems end of life now). Otherwise the K800 Illuminated Wireless. Yes I have the former and it's the best kb I've used but it's not only recommended out of personal preference, I also base it on when people come to me with decent R1k budgets for keyboards that are smart and comfortable. Illuminated is the answer.

I been toying with the idea of getting the k800. Currently using mk705. Can't find any retail store with the k800 on demo for me to test.

Tried Incredible? Last time I was there (about 2+ years ago :D) they had Logitech's on demo...

Unless you have abnormal hands, you can't go wrong.

Haven't actually. Will give them a bash.

No luck!! I think I might buy it blind anyway. From Takealot for R1090-00 including shipping. Upgrading cooling as well with the thermalright mux 120, also from Takealot at R540...

K800 for R858 from Webantics...

I caved and bought an ergonomically approved microsoft one from IC. It was only 200 bucks. Going to do a much-needed complete PC upgrade in the next few months. Will get an awesome board then. :-)

If you've done the Googling and YouTubing, go for it.

mmmmmm, what you mean? Wouldn't you recommend it? That thermaltake looks slightly large and I'm not looking forward to removing my mobo to install it.

As for the KB, very risky, I might hate it... MK705 I like a lot but I have a KB fetish which needs to be fed. Nearly bought an Apple wireless KB the other day!!!! Looks over rated to me though and then there is the small issue of pc compatibility...
