Is it just me or is Windows 10 ridiculously slow on a mechanical drive? At time unusable on one machine I have.
This is true. Loading the store apps and updates are an even worse experience on a mechanical hard drive.

Did you know about the M.2 port before purchase?
Don't see it listed on the specs.

I found a video online for the i5 model, which showed it although I wasn't 100% sure this model had it so I only purchased the M.2 drive after checking when it arrived, otherwise I would have just put a 2.5" SSD in there. But with the M.2 I get to keep the 1TB disk in there for extra storage.

I also have the WiiU version. Mic cannot be used as I think the WiiU had a proprietary connector. Tried it in my phone and with a splitter and couldn't get the mic to work.
I tested tonight on a phone and on my pc and my mic does work. Are you sure yours aren't just muted? there is a mute switch on the other side of the volume control...

I don't experience any problems with Windows on my Lenovo G50 or cheapo 2-in-1 tablet. They're not sluggish; not as fast and responsive as my SSD-equipted desktop, obviously, but they don't suck the life out of you.

The G50 might have a regular drive, but tablets would have eMMC storage, similar to Flash drives kind of.Which doesn't have spinning parts

Anyone got a line on good sources for LGA1155 mobos?

Mine blown, don't want to spend a **** load on upgrading mobo, ram and cpu. JHB or delivery?

Carbonite.co.za good place to look, 1155 boards tend to sell quickly...

Just want to report on the laptop I ordered from Amazon the other day.

This one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01K1IO3QW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1, got mine for $315 though on Cyber Monday.

The regular price of $350 is still good though and you cannot get a similar spec laptop for this price at local retail outlets. Works out to R6k with regular shipping - that's for a laptop with a 7th gen Core i3, 1080p display and very easy upgradability of memory (2 slots, 1 free) and storage (has a M.2 and sata bay). I upgraded this one with more memory and put a M.2 drive in as the boot drive. It's now insanely fast compared to running it off the shipped 5400rpm hard drive (they should make it illegal to sell computers with these :D).
Awesome. Out of interest, what about a warranty claim?

No one does customer care like Amazon.
They generally email you a prepaid shipping label. You call up the courier company and they pickup. They will ship it back as well for free.

Did not know that Amazon will pay for shipping. Always thought buying internationally you take the risk of warranty since shipping is so expensive.

Do we know which products do carry international warranty? There were some brands when I investigated a few years ago.

Some different hardware.....

New Balance, Atterbury Value Mart is having a 25/50 % off sale on already marked off products

Fitted out the whole family with running shoes for less of the price for a normal priced pair
