Has Degree.. Is unemployed...

I'm a white male and I've been working in marketing for 3-4 years. I am currently doing my post-grad in management and marketing part-time through UCT / Getsmarter in order to supplement my working experience.

I think it's been said before, but big companies are the only ones who need 'marketing assistant' roles, and will invariably hire African women for these roles. Digital marketing is a good space at the moment if you have the head for it, and in your position I'd recommend you look at interning at a reputable digital agency.

Hi FM, I have actually been thinking about internet and digital marketing.

But I have no knowledge of Google adwords and analytics, PPC, SEO and so on. Do you perhaps know how I can get these skills. I have been looking at this site: http://www.ileadtraining.co.za/practical-training/search-engine-optimization/

These guys do:

Search Engine Optimization
Social Media Marketing
Google Analytics
Google Adwords

but once again... its abou R2000 for the course.

Do you think internships could be offered to unskilled people in this field

Which BSc did you do? I find the best way to get in with a good company is by going to the career fairs. If you impress enough you can get over a dozen prospects for internship straight out of uni. As long as you're a promising individual it seems unlikely that you wouldn't get in with any of them.

A lot of it also has to do with personality traits. Extroverts and/or people with the ability to communicate, have a distinct advantage over introverts and/or people with fewer social skills.

I would seriously recommend that people who tend to keep to themselves, start going out and socialising. Even if you hate it at first, you will eventually get used to it and it will do wonders for your networking skills further down the line in your career. Put the PC/console away and leave the house sometimes... :p

Being introverted has nothing to do with your ability to communicate. I'm introverted and have never struggled to speak in public or lead groupwork. Many people can't speak, write or work worth a damn, regardless of whether they're extroverted or introverted. Most of the written work I've ever been given by a group member has been of an atrocious standard - barely suitable for a junior school English class.

I wish people would just read more. I've never encountered an avid reader who writes like a retard.

This. I consider myself a strong introvert, but I've never had an issue with public speaking or presentation.

I think this is very much an industry-related thing. I am also a white male introvert with an MScEng, which I obtained 2 years ago with average marks. I had two unsolicited job offers four months before I even graduated, and three other interviews lined up. I have only ever had one unsuccessful job interview, but this was (I think) mainly due to my disinterest in their business showing (I suck at dishonesty/flattery).

I get unsolicited offers for job interviews about two to four times a month (mainly from one or two companies) via email or LinkedIn.

My wife has a BAcc Hons and she also found a job before she even graduated.

Not enough upvotes in the world for this.

Have to thank my mum for dragging me to the library every week as a kid (I wasn't bookish when I was little - quite the opposite). Today my job is writing technical specifications for software developers after divining requirements from non-technical people...would be impossible without a decent grasp of language and how to communicate effectively.

Also an introvert with good presentation skills.

Ah, so you're an SA as well :p FWIW I'm also an introvert.

The reference to extroverts finding some degree of success is their ability to keep talking, and often bullschitting. Their ability to tell a story. People like stories :D

But yeah, if you're able to communicate effectively, introvert or extrovert, you shouldn't have an issue. Which is why my point about making the effort to socialise still stands - it will do wonders for your communication skills...
 
try contacting the brand agencies directly. some of them usually post the vacancies on their own websites.
 
I went for a second interview today, for a specific company. I hope I get the Job... :)

my Baby sis is also unemployed has a public Admin degree from tuks and has been looking for a job for 2 years now since she graduated. its tough out there. her retail job that she had for 6 months ended recently. I am trying to encourage her to start some sort of business.
 
Must be shattering if you studied for a degree and cant get employment in your chosen field.
