Has Digichilli Launched?

I see a lot of anger and frustration going on in posts both here and on the DC forum... understandable, I guess, as many of us were looking to Dave and his team as saviors from the oppression of restrictive bandwidth limits.

Very nice post.

Hey Dave,

Any chance my PM's will get answered or do i have to start shouting like the other dude? :P

The shouting doesn't work. I've been ranting a lot, it's more theraputic than effective :D Think it is a bigger problem than Dave (or any person) can keep up with.

I'm getting error 691 can someone please explain to me please, cant connect to digichilli only telkom.

PM'd you G3rri3.

Thanks techrat and raedwulf.

We do understand your frustration.

Google isn't the cheapest. They're the best. We're authorised Google partners. And more than that too. The Google Apps that we sell are an upgraded version of the 'free' google apps available to the public. They rock.

The Google DNS was being used to eliminate any possibility that it was our dns servers causing the issue and latency. It's now eliminated.

We have had some over usage issues, not really due to any intention of users. The BIGGEST user - yeah, its still Gustav - is cool. He's behaving since the last hammer episode. He's network stats and monitoring software have even helped us a bit.

So, it's not just your torrents. Some people have deliberately set their torrents to be 'hidden' as http. Its not a common default, and hasn't caused too big an issue before. Even 4Mbps users aren't causing the issues. Further deliberately tweaking of your settings to avoid bandwidth management may be an issue now and then.

The deliberate brute force attack and DOS attacks are a bit annoying. We normally phone these guys and ask them to behave nicely. It would be better if we didn't have to do that at all.

We're are working 24/7 on the issue and will sort it out. We are making some changes which we have identified as possible issues. It is not something that even our BAD test users uncovered. Suffice it to say that it is in that piece between managing throttling to package size and contention with its myriads of settings. It's not something anyone has done successfully yet in this country, but we do intend to be the first.

Hold tite. This won't hurt much and you will be down for 10 min.

Morning all.

Dave

Since I am not allowed to post negative feedback (according to DigiChilli) on an account that doesn't seem to work. Good luck all users, hopefully they get it fixed!

I don't think it comes with a 'Money-Back Guarantee'

Correct me if i am wrong.

Don't need money back guarantees where there is a material breach of contract.

Just wondering if anyone has tried :)

Give the guys a chance boys. Its a new server, there is bound to be bugs while they find their feet and get equilibrium in the way they providing the service. Its bound to have some trouble in the beginning. If you not willing to live with it / have the money for a backup account, wait a month or two before you join.

The way they are managing the problems and communicating with their users is improving and I'm sure within the next few weeks we will see the kind of service we are looking for. For the moment, you're likely to get way more value for money than what you will get at R23/gb if you stick with it and you're willing to live with the teething problems.

For now, stick to constructive criticism and Let dave and his team know where the problems are located so that they can work on fixing them. Take into account his support team are also learning the ropes and its a steep learning curve.

With the amount of signups they got, they are taking a lot of strain managing phone calls, new signups, support and clearing out the nicks and burrs in the network. Know some days things will be great and other days things will be poor. Its the way things will be with any new service of its kind and if you cannot live with it, you need to wait some before you sign up.

On a more constructive note:

Dave, seems your shaping server is over correcting at the moment. The traffic picks up and once it reaches a certain point, the server shape you back to nothing and in the process kills all ssh connections etc, causing some havoc. Maybe it needs a bit of tweaking. :D

Now on Page 19... to answer the question in the title of this thread.

Yes - but it was a premature ejaculation. :)

On a more serious note - hope you get it fixed soon Digichilli so that I can become a customer.

Dave grabs nearest techie by the ear and goes.....'tweak, tweak'.:wtf:

Indeed. The protocol management and DPI feels a bit like an elastic train ride at the moment.

Question
A curious thought came in the early hours of some morning..... how much bandwidht do the ISP's provide per month?

IS released a press release saying that their DSL base was doing 1 petaflop or 1,000,000 Gigabytes a month. They're big, but what about the other guys? Anyone had the same curiosity?

WA (they did > 35TB's in their trail), Afrihost, Axxess, SAOL, big and small, any one care to guess or disclose their usage? Sort of number of users * average usage sort of thing?

I'm sure he was referring to everyone else telling people to stop being negative.
