I think he was using dapper or an earlier version, so I was talking from the perspective, but you are right, the new version comes with it by default.

I wasn't sure. Was using kubuntu but then decided to bite the bullet with 7.04 and give gnome a whirl. I like brown :)

Err, w1z4rd, unless I got an extra-special copy of ubuntu, I'm sure mine came with ff installed from the get-go (ubuntu 7.04)?

Yes, this is correct! And it worked as soon as I clicked on the Icon.... I just had to import my bookmarks and reload my extensions and now it's set up exactly the same way it was in XP. The application manager is very easy to use and I added a few other options through the application manager.

Flash was pretty easy to get working and all the codecs for the Video playback.

I'm just struggling a little with Java though... I had to go and install the superuser terminal just to get Java working.

Skype was pretty easy.. .a few clicks and it was working!

I like it so far... .and I'm willing to learn more... I joined the Ubuntu user forums.

Lets all show the finger to MS and support freeware and the Mark Shuttleworth movement that is known as Ubuntu Linux and Beryl. You dont need much experience with Linux. I had none a few weeks ago and i could get it running on a Celeron 2.4GHz with 512 RAM and an FX5200. It even looks better than windows and you can run just about any windows program (even photoshop) with the "wine" application. Getting new programs is a piece of cake as well.
Check out these vids. Experiencing the cube and working with it was enough satisfaction for getting it started. With the speed at which Ubuntu is being developed, i think ill through my Windows CD's away in a few months time.

Has anyone tried running MS Office using this app?

I run office 2007 on QEMU

Created a new thread regarding running Windows programs in Linux.

LabAnimal, have you tried posting your xorg.conf file on ubuntuforums.org and asking assistance?

Dont know how you could struggle with installing firefox.. you goto add/remove programs, select firefox and click on apply changes... um... might I point you in the direction of the ubuntu handbook so you can understand the basics?

xorg.conf... I don't even know it existed let alone where on the machine it would be located!... Ubuntuforums.org was the site i went to, i didnt ask for assistance, but did searches on it and read up several threads regarding my multimonitor issues which didnt make much sense as i don't understand the file system.

Installing was one thing, but not the worst, it was more locating the program after it was installed. I think its a combination of me being either short tempered when things that should be simple is just the opposite... I can be quite patient but i think its the fact that many things in kubuntu just didnt go smoothly for me, and i threw my toys...

Anyway, yea, a handbook would be great, thanks!

Last year I bought this book - its aimed at 6.06 but most stuff will still be valid now. Looking for that book at kalahari I see there're a whole lot of new books, including one by Paul and Andrew Hudson that looks good.

But ubuntuforums is a good place to start, too.
