Got scammed in 2020 when I found a normal looking SA site selling 3M N95 masks. Suffice to say the order never arrived, and it was through Payfast so they didn't have my cc, so didn't have to cancel.

Several years ago I found a foreign site selling a thunderbolt to ethernet / usb adapter. The site looked legit, a complete electronics store. As the payment was through PayPal, PayPal ended up refunding me.

Every year by the cANCer thugs, SARS.
In the rest of the world, SARS is a devastating virus; here, it's just a criminal syndicate collection unit to loot everything

Yes, bought travel insurance from a well known company. Needed emergency medical treatment abroad. They insisted I pay the hospital promising to pay me back. Still waiting for the R100k they owe me. I don't expect to ever see the money.

Builders who disappear with deposits / money, a tale older than time. :(
That’s the only time I’ve been “scammed” but somehow that doesn’t seem like a scam. Builder did half the job and never returned. Got someone else to finish it. Did lose a few thousand rand, not much. Still is that an outright scam, don’t think it qualifies in the modern sense. Now the **** happening on your screen and phone are next level scams…

Sold a group of silver items, accompanied by a registered appraiser report for R26 000 to buyer in Belgium. He paid US$1560 via PayPal

Items were shipped by DHL and delivered 4 days later in Bruges

PayPal asked for proof of shipping, so send waybill with tracking

For 5 days in a row, PayPal said they would credit my account with the R26 000

Then they advised buyer had cancelled the sale on the grounds that the goods were not as described

Buyer would not answer emails and Paypal sent generic replies to my request to get the buyer to have the items examined by an appraiser in Bruges. After 3 months of this, Paypal said the case was closed

An employee of mine once shipped out an R18,000 product that was paid for by fake proof of payment. We also got scammed by someone who paid with fake R100 notes but luckily that was only about R2000.

Worst was when I was scammed out of an R11,000 product because the guy was so slick. He paid by immediate payment via Nedbank on his banking app in front of us. I watched him type the correct account info and amount into the app, watched him click "Pay now", then when he had to confirm the OTP from his email he turned away for a second then showed the "payment successful" screen on the Nedbank app.

When he turned away he must have switched to a saved screenshot or photoshopped image because the money never came through. He looked like an honest chap who didn't fit the scammer profile, and Nedbank immediate payments can take a while to clear, so we let him take the product. Never again, no exceptions.
