Well he used an American accent to try and scam me out of cash with some sob story about being stuck in SA and trying to get back home..

Got scammed in 2020 when I found a normal looking SA site selling 3M N95 masks. Suffice to say the order never arrived, and it was through Payfast so they didn't have my cc, so didn't have to cancel.

Several years ago I found a foreign site selling a thunderbolt to ethernet / usb adapter. The site looked legit, a complete electronics store. As the payment was through PayPal, PayPal ended up refunding me.

Yes, bought travel insurance from a well known company. Needed emergency medical treatment abroad. They insisted I pay the hospital promising to pay me back. Still waiting for the R100k they owe me. I don't expect to ever see the money.

No I haven't - cheated by building contractors who disappeared with my stuff, but scammed - no.

That’s the only time I’ve been “scammed” but somehow that doesn’t seem like a scam. Builder did half the job and never returned. Got someone else to finish it. Did lose a few thousand rand, not much. Still is that an outright scam, don’t think it qualifies in the modern sense. Now the **** happening on your screen and phone are next level scams…
