HD PVR 2 P - single lnb installation

yep it is but the limitation is that recordings wont work properly, an example you are watching mnet and want to record Nickelodean it wont work.
 
Any idea where one can find a splitter that works? I have tried the Ellies on listed on pg 1 with no luck, only 1 tuner ever gets signal :( My current setup is 1 LNB from the wall in a complex, all complex setting directly in the decoder and happy. All I require is a splitter that actually works. Any assistance would be appreciated

I have the following setup:

FLAT.

HDPVR 2P connected to a 2 lnb dish.


HOUSE.

1110 decoder connected to a 1 lnb dish.
Also connected to the HDPVR via RF. HDPVR = RF Out 1110 Decoder = RF In
Xtraview has been activated.

I installed this setup according to page 14 of the installation manual, which I downloaded from the dstv website, the only difference being that each decoder has its own dish.

On page 15 of the manual it states:

"It is suggested that the HDPVR is used as the primary - is prevents any recordings from being lost due to any possible failure of the link between the decoders etc"

The manual also says that any loss of comms will have no impact on the HDPVR.

This seems to indicate that recording is possible from the secondary decoder (1110)

Is It possible to record, pause Etc from the house location (In other words, to have the same functionality as with the old dual view setup) ?

unfortunatley no you canot record from the 1110
basically they saying make the hd pvr the primary becasus if its the secondary and for what ever reason the heart beat is lost (and this does happen quite often) it will not record any thing you have set to record -
however if you have a remote blaster or tvlink thingie you can controll the pvr from another room

Dont know if you came right, i also had had the Ellies splitter and it didnt work, (halfworked) could not get all channels & no recording also only 1 tuner was showing signal.

Then i got a samsat 2way splitter 5-2400Mhz, (thank Pizzmann for his post in this thread), i got mine from Hifi corp for R40, plugged it in, all channels work & recording, the the issue of recording some channels while watching another.

I live in a flat with a DSTV feed to the wall-point. I've tried the solution with the Ellies 2-way splitter and can't get SSHD2, Discovery and a few other channels (I get the "Signal Unavailable" message). Same thing if I don't use the splitter and I have the lnb cable going straight to my 2P decoder. Will the samsat splitter solve this or is there a more serious problem. Even some of the non-HD channels aren't working.

This is probably good news for you. Check with the complex manager but my guess would be that you have a fully compliant single cable system, you just need to insert network settings into the decoder which would give you full functionality

It makes sense that it could be a single-cable system. The building is a relatively new building (about 3 years old) so it's possible.

If it is a single-cable system, where could I get a SatCR cable? Doesn't seem to be very common in stores around Durban.

satcr cable? no such thing sort of, the cables for a satcr LNB are the same regular old cables we use

For you if we are corect in our asumption just plug the wall point intoyour decoder and go to network setting (which you will have to get from your building manager, body corporate or neighbours) and you should get full fucntionality
 
Hi Guys,

Would anyone be able to tell me what the system is like in the complex called, Phoenix View Estate? This is in Midrand, Johannesburg. It's a new complex that has been built by Galencia. Would any additional cables, splitters etc be required in this complex? I currently have a standard decoder connected to the wall socket. Your help will be much appreciated.
 
My setup is the following:
Primary decoder HD PVR connected via HDMI cable to a 50” Samsung Plasma
Secondary decoder HD PVR 2P connected via HDMI cable to Sony Amp and from the Amp via HDMI cable to a Sinotec 47” FHD LCD.

The 2 decoders are separated by a wall between the main bedroom and lounge and connected together by the heartbeat cable (RF Out on Primary, RF In on secondary) as well as 2 other cables that run through a hole in the wall from the splitter in the lounge to Satellite 1 and 2 respectively on the back of the HD PVR 2P.

I’m having a number of issues with my HD PVR 2P and it started about 2 months ago. Prior to that I’ve had about 8 months of relatively trouble free viewing on the HD PVR 2P. I would be watching tv and unexpectedly it would lose the heartbeat. It appeared to be completely random and for the most part I suspect it is. I would get a “waiting for communication from primary decoder error message E143-4”.
The only way to resolve this issue is to phone the call centre and have the extra view connection reset/resent.

Then about 10 days ago it happened again but this time all the processes tried with the call centre did not resolve the waiting for communication from primary decoder error message.

I think it’s also pertinent at this stage to point out that the failures seem to occur when I am viewing recorded or recording a channel, IOW when the secondary decoder is running under a bit of stress. I tried to playback recorded footage off the devices internal hardrive and I get the following error message, Error smart card message E102-29....

This morning I took both HD PVR and HD PVR 2P through to MC Randburg for testing.
It took them a while but they got the decoders to work and I went home and re-connected everything up but alas “waiting for communication from primary decoder error message E143-04”.

So called the helpdesk and ran through a multitude of settings only for the problem to persist. The help desk suggested it may be installation related.

I went to the local hardware and bought some coaxial cable and f connectors, got home made a new heart beat cable, called the call centre, had the extra view connection resent/reset and it worked... for about 20 minutes... I tried recording footage and 1st I got the yellowed out box signifying a failed recording but after a reboot the decoder recorded. While playing back the recorded footage the “waiting for communication from primary decoder error message returned’ as did the E102-29 error message when trying to view the recorded footage.

Further to this under information central in the hardware status menu it’s displaying next to smart card: error.

Signal strength is 98% and 100% respectively on both Tuner 1 and Tuner 2.

Extra view settings as per primary decoder:
Primary smart card active
RF in
TV 1
on
on
Transmitting heartbeat

Extra view settings as per secondary decoder:
Ready but inactive
RF Out
TV 2
on
on
communication status remains blank

I’m seriously fed up with this rubbish!! My issues with the HD PVR are well documented on the DSTV forum.

Please advise
 
Wrong thread... Not related.

If you don't have any television sets connected via RF out, my advice would be to try and switch the communication ports (settings and actual heartbeat cable). Just try it. If it does not work, get a good installer to sort this out...

Tried that. The heartbeat cable is going straight from the Primary RF IN to the Secondary RF OUT. Also tried Primary RF OUT to Secondary RF IN to test for a potentially faulty port on either HD PVR.

To me it seems like a faulty hardrive on the secondary pvr. Why can I not access recorded footage? Also the system seems to fall over and crash when I'm recording or watching buffered footage...

So bloody frustrating!!!

Firstly thanks to the contributors on this thread. Saved myself a couple of grand.

Regarding the issue above, I had the same problem. Turns out it was my lnb power setting. It must be set to Controlled, mine was set to Off
 
There are surely heaps of others who like me, browsed this thread hoping for more recent updates as to whether the single LNB solutions posted last year are still valid. They are. I did the splitter installation last weekend because I wanted to PVR all the world cup action over the next 7 weeks. The thing works like a charm.

Just a note that there are a nr of channels on the horizontal polarization - more than the 6 or so implied in certain posts. All the HD channels bar SSHD1 are the main ones that I can think of. So if you're thinking of recording MNETHD while watching Movie Magic - it aint gonna happen captain. The tv guide is sometimes also slow to udpate and doesn't always show content days in advance.

But these are minor gripes and ones I can live with considering I'm jimmy'ing the system. I can pause live tv, record anything, HD channels look gorgeous... all in all I'm happy.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread. I've done the splitter install and everything is fine, given the limitations mentioned.

Just one question: Does DSTV Catchup/On Demand and Box Office work with this install?

OK, got myself an HD PVR and Samsat splitter (5-2400Mhz), HD enabled not paying the R65p/m and all the channels work great but cannot get the recording function to work, keep on getting a E102-29 error when I press the record button. What am I doing wrong???

You can't record with the PVR functionality, that costs the R65 you are not paying.....
