No extra, same as normal PVR, for now though. Will probably be an HD fee when they add more HD channels

My main irritation is the totally useless management of the HD channel itself, old promos, constantly changed & removing shows.

I havent had a PVR before so am happy with the HDPVR
 
Comes as expected, MC is exploiting SA citizens to the last dime they are prepared to pay for..

We are being ripped off for subscription, whilst at same time we finance their hardware infrastructure experiments.

Wait till the Irdeto II is cracked....... lolies..than we will have to refinance their entire infrastructure again.
 
HD PVR

I doubt very much whether the decision to discontinue the SD PVR decoder had anything to do with the components and the availibility thereof. This is a strategic move to increase the uptake of the HD PVR decoder, once DStv gains critical mass (in relative terms), consumers will start to feel the pinch and we'll see the introduction of a HD subscription model.
 
The list of bugs/issues in this PVR is too frightening...
Does the thing actually do any PVR things that can't be done with standard recorder... Sounds it is more disfuntional than functional!

Right, so you can record 2 channels on an HD-PVR ok ...... how do you 'watch' what you have recorded? I mean, like when you watch recorded stuff, can you still watch a dstv channel on another TV or what?

If stable means waiting for a key press to happen, then it is more stable. The last software update was at the start of December, and that mostly addressed Extraview implementation. and not addressing any real issues. I am sure that most of them have been stated alredy.

Apart from the software being a disgrace and so slow, they repeat the same movie three times in one day on the HD channel. The HD channel also closes down at about one at night. Although there are quality HD programming in the world, such as the cricket against Australia and Obama's inauguration, the HD program managers continue to ignore anything to beef up the channel. A standard DSTV excuse is that the programs were not offered to us in HD. Fashion TV is also broadcast in HD and could fill the midnight hours beautifully. Lucky us, we are going to see one super 14 match a week in HD.

Then comes the EPG stuffups, such as missing episodes of series that are aired on the HD channel. Suggestion you shoulkd have watched those in the normal Mnet channel. Soundtracks that should have been available in surround sound are broadcast in stereo only. Bad quality video are sometimes broadcast with breakups, and sometimes normal content are broadcast.

The real product HDTV is brilliant. Sad multichoice decided to stuff it up so badly with their utter incompetence!

A good quality interviewer would have enquired about these facts, before publishing their biased trash PR. I have always believed myBB to be quality, bt articles like this is not worthy publishing. Rather interview a few HDPVR owners.

The HD PVR is the most unstable device I've ever used, it frustrates me daily.

Sorry dude, 1 video output, thats it. you watch either TV or recording, not both. :mad:
 
well I've heard from peeps with HD-PVR's already that you can watch recorded stuff while watching a 'live' channel ...... you can record while watching a recording too apparently.

yes, you can watch a recording while recording another.
I have have not found the setting/feature to watch a recording AND live TV at the same town

There are 3 tuners, but only one viewing environment. So you can record 2 and watch another, or record 2 and watch another recording. You can't watch two different things on 2 tvs tho' (there is no dualview).

Arfs statement is 100% correct AFAIK, No dual view, unless a new model was released since I last checked. There was rumours but I doubt if it was ever resolved. Will do some checking myself and see.
