Postman - in your eyes - why does an LCD exist?
Why are people buying them?
Why are manufacturers ditch them?

Just wondering what warped answers I'll read to these :/

Yes, PC res will be 1024x768.

It downscales. My Mede8er connects 1080p movies to the Sammy at 1080p and I don't know what the Sammy then does but what ever it is the picture is absolutely stunning on 1080p vids.

I wouldn't say squashing, that makes it sound bad! And it's not.

I can also get it from Frontosa but they damn expensive!!! R6382 incl VAT on the latest price list...

1. Cheaper and easier to manufacture and so bigger profits
2. Lighter, so cheaper transport costs, more profit ;)

3. Up until recently, higher resolution for those that need it for generally cheaper than full HD plasma (although 42"/50" full HD plasmas are now cheaper than FHD LCDs!)
4. Better for perma static images - no image retention
5. Better for bright-lit rooms
6. Slightly cheaper electricity bill
7. Because SD TV/TV/SD sport/sport isn't a priority

8. Because the manufacturers told the salesmen so.

Yeah. Don't buy TVs from Frontosa. The only reason why one would is because they probably wouldn't need a TV licence.

I did get my C450 from Frontosa, as they actually stock it and the price was better than the shops that stocked it. Game/Makro don't do the C450 models.

Plasma, no question about it. Plasma (for some reason, reminds me to try and find out why) is very forgiving when it comes to a less than perfect feed. Some LCD's displays SD via HDMI from an HD decoder acceptably, but when it comes to connecting via RCA or RF, I have not seen a single LCD that I would be happy with.
 
... Its like cheap hifis that make things sound quite nice. As you to more decent stuff, your source is very important ;)
 
Hows the humming on palsma these days?

I hear they're not great with altitude :/
 
There is no point in arguing with Postman Pot, you know he has tested all TV's and done numerous studies and has found out that Plasma is superior... To the OP it really does depend on you and yourself, if you play a lot of console games honestly the LCD is the better choice, the resolution for one will actually make a big difference then some 42" trying to get a 720p image to fit in a 4:3 1024x768 resolution. The plasma yes will be better for SDTV and sport but probably only marginally so, at this price point it really isn't going to make a massive difference on what you get, it's honestly down to you. I know a guy who recently bought a plasma, I cannot remember the spec or model now cause it's irrelevant and he watches a lot of sport and plays a lot of Xbox, the sport does look fantastic on it, but you know it gets annoying when he is playing 360 and the previous rugby games logos are still slowly fading from the screen (this did get better after 3 months)

Bold part is absolute BS!

... for the rest, don't spend hours reading these forums ... go to the shop and get the damn sales person to do his job and set up the sets you are considering in the same way you will be using them and running the same content, then make your decision ... stop looking at the numbers on the box.
 
Really have you done it, taken your Xbox for example and slapped it on to a widescreen set to a normal 4:3 resolution? Cause I have and it was horrible, did it with my old 32" Plasma back in the day. Yes you could fiddle with the settings to try get it to fit right but it never did really get it right. Marcus Fenix looked like he was eating McD's for ever.

Thanks. You admitted plasma is better than LCD for TV/sport. That's exactly what I've been trying to say all along to a point I had to bold the bits where ever I said TV/sport.

Yes, one of my TV's do it all day long ...

If your image was stretched sideways, it is because your XBox's output was set to 4:3 ... that needs to be set to 16:9 (your plasma has a physical aspect ratio of 16:9, regardless of the ratio between y-pixels and x-pixels), so setting your Xbox to output 16:9 it will look perfect on any 16:9 panel.
 
What are you guys doing to do when they stop making plasma? :(

You're so passionate about it - I'm just a little worried :/

Which claims have you got a problem with?

My claims:

TV/sport is a lot more than marginally better on plasma
Sport has motion blur on LCDs less than 100Hz
Plasma as a technology produces better colours and blacks (i.e. most expensive plasma vs most expensive LCD)
Plasma as a technology has a faster "response time" leading to no motion blur that is synonymous with less than 100Hz LCDs
Plasma is wide screen

Anything I forgot?
