Help build R20 000 Gaming Computer

I have four. 2 in, 1 out and 1 on the CPU Cooler.

Anyways, you don't really have space for side panel fans if you have a large aftermarket cooler like the Hyper 212+.
 
And 1155 outperforms 1366 last I heard???
In most cases yes,
but like the Socket 1366 Core i7 990x (6 core - 12 threads) CPU (which is extremely expensive) will outperform the Socket 1155 Core i7 2600k (4 core - 8 threads) in multi-threaded applications.

Depends on the case really. I can't fit an upper side fan because of my Hyper 212+, but that's a silly place for a fan anyway.

The lower fan sits right over the GPU's and isn't obstructed by the CPU cooler.

Case is a CM690ii
 
How much heat could a sound card take before it might fail?

Heat and dust are two things that kill, over time, these add-on cards that we are talking about, more specifically the ICs on the PCB. When moving/removing/replacing an IC on a normal PCB (if not done with a soldering iron of course) the board is heated up to around 300 degrees momentarily to melt the solder and perform the required work. Most lead-free solder (ROHS) only melts well above 230 degrees and more, so the PCB and components need to be able to withstand these high temperatures. In some earlier R&D experimentation I've done I heated PCBs and ICs up to 350 degrees for sustained periods and the device still worked afterwards.

What causes more of a problem is the thermal fluctuations, hot cold hot cold hot cold. Think of your car. The most wear and tear to your mechanics happen in the first few minutes when the engine etc warm up. A study once showed that +/- 93% of the wear on a car engine on a trip from JHB to CT happens in the first 5 minutes whilst everything warms up.

Comparisons aside, personally I don't think that some warm/hot air from a graphics card or two is going to damage any sound card or similar device as the ICs won't get anywhere close to even 100 degrees.

Even the 980X outperforms the 2600K in some of the benchmarks.
