If you want/need ADSL, you only really have one option for your phone line - Telkom.

The provider is a different story though, there are a good number of threads that have covered similar questions. Browse through the forums a bit and check for the comparisons etc. Chances are you will go either the Mweb route, or for Afrihost (for the uncapped adsl account). Mweb does also offer a trial service, so maybe if you decide to get ADSL, you can request a trial account from their sales department (think it is a 7 day trial).

If you do not want a landline maybe look at a wireless provider like:
http://www.kawuleza.com

Telkom has this offer where you get 3 months for free if you subscribe for 24 months. I read on this website that WebAfrica is the fastest ISP in SA though.

Telkom
Phone line - R120 (+-)
DSL 1mb - R290 (+-)
Installation - R700 (+-)
Router - R600 (+-)

ISP

Mweb R200 (+-) for 1mb uncapped.

Waiting for telkom to install the line, 30 days (+-)

Don't ask me why, but while reading this, I was expecting it to end with a line saying "For everything else, there's Mastercard"

Do I pay R120 for the phone line each month or do I pay R290 only+ phone usage ( depending on how much I talk on the phone?) In other words, the only fixed cost after the first month is R290?

You pay both analogue (voice) and DSL rental every month regardless... You'll pay call charges on top of that.

What he said.

I think it should have ended like, "waiting for telkom to install your line, priceless. ;)

PS. Dont use the phone, thats another R400 (+-) on your bill.

I took the Simple Plus package.

1mb DSL + 10GB a month.
Phone line.
Free modem.
Free installation.

They even gave me a free 3G modem and R150 8ta airtime to use while I wait for my line.

All and all its going to be R499 a month.

My first payment is going to be R499-R1000, depending on how long they take to install my line.

My situation has changed in the past 24 hours...

I want to know if the following is possible

I have a phone line at work...
We installed cameras at work and the guy who installed these cameras said it was possible for me to watch the feed at home using the internet...

So im left in a situation where i need to put internet at both places ...
I dont want to spend that much money every month on paying bills for work internet and home internet to just receive feeds...

Because i dont need internet at home when im at the office n vice versa

I was thinking what is my cheapest solution here?

I read on the internet that i could use nanostations but that only works if its in line of site...
My work is 10km away from my home and i was wondering if i can get my feeds and share the one internet between the two

thanks alot

You get your phone line from telkom, then you order adsl data account + adsl line from an ISP like MWEB, WebAfrica or Afrihost. Before you buy, I suggest you get a trial account from MWEB and WebAfrica, and see which one is better. Based on these trial accounts, pick the ISP which gave you the best performance.

You can run multiple connections on a single data account without sacrificing speed (for capped accounts). If you have any questions about our accounts, please send me a PM. :)

You could look at an Axxess Uncapped account, if you still want uncapped - you are allowed 2 concurrent connections on those accounts ( http://axxess.co.za/uncapped ).

Took the same deal

First month was R708 = R500 + R208 pro rata.
Waiting till about september before I cancel them as ISP and go with mweb
