Help - converting MP4 to AVI

Can anyone suggest a (free) application that works 100%?

I need to convert mp4 movies, which I obtained legally :) in order to watch on a LG LCD (which only reads AVI).
I've tried mp4toavi but it fails on audio.
have tried all audio codec settings.

& Virtualdub doesn't read mp4's at all.

Windows 7 Pro 32 with K-Lite Code Pack.
 
I'm using I'm too video converter, works well and I think its free. It supports multiple codecs to convert to or from. Also any video converter is quite good (I think that's what its called.)
 
Don't know if this helps but I had the same sort of problem recently, my DVD player won't play MP4.

In the end I converted the MP4 files to standard DVD using DeVeDe DVD/CD Video Creator for linux which produces a iso for burning, I'm pretty sure there is a windows version. I stopped there but you might be able to go further with a DVD rip to avi tool, there seems to be plenty out there.
 
ImToo seems to cost $34. (will check the "bay")

I have "devede" on my laptop (fedora dual boot) but the g/f highjacked the *&^ laptop (for skype?) and refuses to give it back.
She's only knows Windows + compiz apparently makes her car sick (she claims).

There's lots of apps out there but I was hoping I won't have to download & try a hundred first.
Will check devede for Win.

Never done mp4 before but just tried 2 mp4 videos to avi and it works a charm, in linux anyway but there is a windows version available as well.

DeVeDe is not happy under Win, (not responding)
I've never been fond on *nix apps that were converted to Win32.
They never work (as well or at all) under Win as they do under *nix.

Downloaded something called "Augart Video Converter"
Will know in 5 if it actually did the audio as well.

Works just as well In Win7. It's basically a GUI for the command line FFmpeg suite. Works well, very easy to use and change settings.

If the g/f didn't "claim" my win7 64 laptop I'd be able to use it myself.
sadly, as in most things, she's always "right".

Any Video Converter is for free on WWW.download.com and can convert almost any type media to any other type media. Works for me, should work for you. It is easy and simple. Just follow the instructions and you will succeed. Go well !!
 
Augart Video Converter got the job done.
finally.

not sure what the problem was as the other converters I tried did the the video 100% but no, or broken audio.
DeVedD on my machine was simply not happy.

again, no idea.

Many thanks Ponder, pity I didn't find winff when I needed it. It works great on Fedora using the Redhat RPM from the download site :)

@bubbatentoe I'm testing DeVeDe on Win 7 Pro 32bit and it seems OK, I'll add the outcome to this post when it's finished (don't you just love boring Sat mornings when all's quiet :D).

Edit: DeVeDe for Windows worked fine for me using MP4 files :)

Yeah it's pretty cool and I like the simple/clean interface.
