Ok I recently got given this laptop a HP Compaq NX9010 but its really temperamental,
When I switch its on, sometimes it doesn’t even switch on the screen but the lights flash a bit except the hard drive light, other times it switches on the screen and shows the options to go to BIOS, LAN boot and to select boot device and then freezes, it sometimes freezes when I am in BIOS or boot device select screen, then if I actually get to the part were it reads the hard drive to boot windows, it sometimes freezes there, if it doesn’t then it starts to boot windows now anytime between here and after I have logged into windows I can get blue screens, I also get blue screens when trying to install windows, and format the disc with the windows disc, the funny thing is that it can work for hours with no problems (BSODs and freezes) and then randomly will it will start its sh**

I get on of two errors in the blue screens: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

Specs:
40 GB Seagate (Hard drive)
Intel Mobile Pentium 4 3.06 GHz (CPU)
ATI Radeon IGP345M (Graphics Card)
512.0 MB DDR266/PC2100 (RAM)

My searches on the web said it’s most probably the hard drive, but then why would it freeze in the BIOS and other non hard drive related functions?

Please help and no pessimists please.

I had the very same laptop, the best thing that happened to it was that it fell, I don't have a laptop, and neither do I have to be bugged by its poor performance, if I don't by another HP laptop it will because my experience with this one was terrible, I had endless problems with drivers etc, and the battery life suks.

Shot Il have to find some spare RAM to test It because it does that with both sticks an both ports

Got the same!

Although mine has not fallen yet - starting to write this to tell you, you could maybe use some of the parts to diagnose your problem then realized you were in Durban, sorry, but that the next best thing to do - swap the parts of a working one. Mine works but am not happy with it - currently using a Acer TM! Gonna Linux the NX9010 one of the days!

Thanks well the throught counts, It even froze installing Ubuntu 8.10

Not the mobo... :(
and it can't be the drivers because it freezes out of windows/linex
